Best overseas leagues for Aussies?

There is an expectation for strikers to press the opposition and thus win- or help to- the ball back high up the pitch.

I actually think the players were higher standard than we’ve had since and should have achieved more for the quality of the individuals. Reality is that Hiddink and the GG achieved less than Arnie’s team in ‘22.
I'm a big believer of the sum of your parts in regards to a football team. Hiddink absolutely flogged them on the training pitch via Crea which is why Harry was fucked after that tournament however what he also did was instill a belief not seen since and also Socceroos first appearance in 32 years and all that so massive motivation. Arnie probably had less to work with however the players he had knew him from the local and international scene and knew the system plus Arnie's man management skills are excellent. What Popa has done with this chop and change bullshit in a World Cup is undermine the confidence that was built up in the first match. Football isn't all systems,. stats and data but a series of moments where each situation has to be managed carefully. Now we may get through either via 3rd or 2nd however Popa has alot of work to do, sometimes you can be too clever.

Not in a particular order but these are the best destinations for A-league players to transition to in Europe/Asia.

We should want the vast majority of our XI playing in 1st division leagues with some development players making their way through 2nd division/Asia.

1st Division Leagues:
  1. Belgian Pro League
  2. Austrian Bundesliga
  3. Danish Superliga
  4. Swiss Super League
  5. Eredivisie
Second Tier Leagues:
  1. The Championship
  2. Budesliga.2
Asia:
  1. J.League
  2. K-league

Not being battle hardened through asia probably made a difference

When stefan symanski wrote his paper seeing how much of a success of a nation u can explain, ome factor was how often the nation plays meaningful international football. If we produce a team as strong on paper as the gg there is every chance the results are better

The point I’m making is that regardless of tactics, you still need ball players who can retain possession. If you can’t string 3 passes together your defence never gets a break from the pressure and hence are more likely to make an error. You get forced deeper and deeper because you never get the chance to come forward. The opposition meanwhile has nothing to fear when you’re going the other way.
Regardless of the tactics, that first 45 minutes against the US was rubbish football.
It is a question of being able to hold the ball against intense opposition Squeezing pressure, from top teams.

Agree with all these leagues as desirable destinations, RL.

Brazil Serie A & B
Liga MX
Argentina Primera/Nacional
Colombia Primera A
Liga AUF
Chile Primera

Places where young ones can learn the dark arts from the best there is. Even a six month stint would be an eye opening education for when they might be ready for Europe or Japan.

commercialism changed that eh - '92 on how many bandwagonners bought united shirts world over
I remember the Man U chair in the 90s saying something like: 'Manchester United are a merchandise company who also run a football club.'

At the time the revenue from football matches was much less than 50% although I believe the TV money went berserk in the late 90s and I daresay (without looking) that they make more from football than merch now.

about right back in those earlier days.
merch was massive like we never seen before.
Now for eg......

  • Commercial (Typically 40–50% of revenue): Global giants maximize brand visibility through lucrative kit manufacturer deals (like Adidas and Nike), sleeve/front-of-shirt sponsorships, and global tours. FC Barcelona, for example, generates massive commercial income through partnerships with Nike and Spotify. [1]
  • Broadcasting (Typically 30–40% of revenue): Domestic and continental television rights are a major income source. English Premier League clubs dominate overall rankings due to the league's massive domestic and international television deals, while clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester City benefit from deep runs and prize money in the UEFA Champions League. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • Matchday (Typically 15–20% of revenue): Stadium capacity and VIP hospitality drive this stream. Arsenal is known to make a high percentage of its revenue through matchday ticket sales, given its modern, high-capacity stadium.
The leading global soccer clubs ranked by revenue include: [1, 2]
  1. Real Madrid (Spain) – Over €1.1 billion
  2. FC Barcelona (Spain) – ~€1 billion
  3. Manchester City (England) – ~€830 million
  4. Bayern Munich (Germany) – ~€860 million
  5. Paris Saint-Germain (France) – ~€830 million
Look at these Billion$ Clubs

Staggering.

I would dearly luv some of our Youth cutting the mustard learning the SthMerican ways !
I don't think they have the metal to survive it imo.....too soft.

Ah yes, the old River Plate Australia Academy.

I’d be very interested to know which leagues Aussies move on from the most, to move to a higher league.

I can’t actually recall too many recent moves from the Erdivisie onto something better, maybe Ryan, Hrustic, Iredale, then back to Holman Oar about 10 years ago.

I think Scotland would see players get picked up by English clubs a bit eg Championship.

Not sure where else.

By far our players mainly end up in the big leagues through promotion - St Pauli, Luongo, Burgess, Volpato etc.

Decentric just hates the golden generation. Always has. It's disturbing.
Not at all.

The GG are overrated. I think it is to do with UEFA adulation in Aus, which UEFA clubs they played their football at, not what they did for the Roos.

Also, in the media too many of the GG are too full of themselves, unlike the newer gen of former players/pundits assembled by Ten, who are more modest, circumspect, more analytical and more knowledgeable. The more circumspect GG have been generally ignored - Skoko, Emo, Bresc, Culina.

The GG have an unwarranted mystique about them, whilst the Roos in Qatar, who went just as far, have little relative status.

I should also add that I appreciate the GG members who've gone into coaching and assisted the Aus game - the Vidmars, Popa, Okon, Foxe, Culina, Sterjovski, Aloisis, Muscat, Milicic, Veart.

Not just brazils flair loads of flair has been stifled world over.
Robotic but you like it that way.
You quote you don’t like the top end commercial leagues well that’s where all this comes from because of the $ that has gone into it.
Weaker clubs have improved due to more money filtering down the channels in turn invest, better facilities coaching etc naturally $ helps improvements.
Now I've had a good look at the WC, I think you and Sutherland B may have a point - to an extent.

There is a definite homogeneity of style - within parameters.

If one of my favourite players is Daniel Arzani, it does not tend to indicate a penchant for robotic footballers.

After having a good look at this WC, this far, I see more flair in the AL - at a much lower level.

A lot of young players are executing some flashy techniques in the AL. I want them to stay in the AL and watch them weekly, as opposed to trying UEFA.

There isn't the money on offer in South A, and, they don't need our players - do they?

Aussies might go well in the Uruguayan league? Given how rugged the national team is.
