Socceroos vs Paraguay 2026 World Cup match thread 🇦🇺🇵🇾

Any info on what is wrong with Bos? He looks lost. He is not the same player as the gun who freaked out the Americans in last year's friendly. Wonder if it's physical or mental?
To be fair Jordan Bos has had quite a bit going on at club level in the leadup to and during the World Cup, namely a change in head coach which may be affecting his morale.

Ignorance and stubbornness will kill the game against Paraguay unless we change the setup and line-up to suit. We have the players and talent to play that style and now let's see if Poppa is brave enough and correct his mistakes. We we're sitting ducks in that first half against 🇺🇸. Australian football needs to change it's mentality we shouldn't fear anyone.

I posted this just before WC kicked off: "I wonder who will get the first red card for speaking to an opponent in a confontational situation while covering their mouth with a hand or shirt. I'd put my money on a Uruguayan". I was close! Just got the wrong Guayan!!
If Suarez was still there he would be doing more with his mouth then abusing an opponent.

Wish Popovic would stop fucking around with lineups and just put out our best 11.
Must have been about 100 headers in the second half of the USA game.
Some shithouse ugly looking football.

Nah I'm done with Poppa. I'd throw the kitchen sink at Ange with this group could seriously make us a top 10 team the USA is the blueprint.

The fact he played Burgess and dropped Nestory is a key indicator that he isn't a tactician. I watched alot of Cam in the EPL even his own manager only used him mostly in back 3 when they up against teams that dominated the ball and field position because he is elite at playing in a low block but this game was always going to be more open and still didn't pick Herrington. Dropping Nestory a guy who thrives on confidence just seems insane to me he might banged in a free kick who knows when confidence is high he could scored a worldie from 35m.

The final nail was dropping Metcalfe, you can clearly see from the celebration of the 2nd goal he is loved by the group dropping him sent a bad signal to whole squad. Just terrible man management.

Popa rotates his sides. Particularly forward positions. He will pick a side he thinks can get him a result in the match.
Haramball in the summer takes a lot of energy and there is no doubt he has an eye on the final match, and the next round. There is benefit to rotating players and taking them off early.

I think we know what he was trying to do. I don’t think the idea was necessarily wrong. But … knowing the pace and physicality of the US, you don’t just need ‘runners’ you also needed guys who want the ball and can receive and retain possession under extreme pressure. Most of us don’t think Leckie and Velupillay were the best choice in this regard.
It seems that Beach was instructed not to play it out (different to Turkey) in which case, Irvine’s ability to win the second ball would have been useful.

I hardly think the sacking of RVP will affect him when he himself has EPL clubs getting in touch. He doesn't need to be worried about his club situation as he's in demand. It's those without a contract in summer who may struggle to get a deal somewhere and might have to sacrifice level and pay.

You don't rotate your 2 goal scorers that's baffling in itself. He replaced them with 2 players who struggled domestically and out of their depth. He made rookie coach errors with his lineup and tactics pure stupidly and stubbornness.

So JS do you think he's been well below his best and if you do why do you reckon

It may well be that he is thinking too much about the offers and has his mind elsewhere

He's looked of it but I think it's to do with the players around him and the system. He was better with McGree against Cameroon.

Despite being defensive he looked better against Turkey. It's the players around him. He had a shabby Okon and an invisible Velupillay. He had one of two moments against the USA.

He was very energetic against Mexico and had late cameo against Switzerland. I don't think it's fitness. It's more the system, match situation and surrounding players that hinders his best traits.

Yep
Popaball is limiting his freedom of going forward.
I can’t recall he going down the line as he normally can nor he much in the opposing final third.
Popaball is choking his natural game.

Popaball is killing me.
This fear and lack of confidence.
It’s arnieball V2.
