On paper it’s very possible but it looks like Malmö’s title chances are very narrow now. They’ve gotta do better than that if they’re aiming for silverware and a good European run.

James Slaveski became the permanent manager. Chances are we’ll have a decent to big transfer window and upgrade on the existing players. Indi dos Santos will be back.
Even with Indiana Dos Santos making her return to play after missing the entirety of A-League Women season 2025-26 for Sydney FC some players like Mackenzie Hawkesby and Sarah Hunter may still be delisted ahead of the new Dub season getting underway and it's likely that they'll be building the team around youth which might not lead to an improvement in results.

Sarah Hunter wasn’t that impressive. She was okay but she didn’t light the world on fire, neither did Charlotte McLean. That’s my worry if Princess Ibini returns too.

To be fair Sarah Hunter missed half the year after breaking her collarbone and Charlotte McLean was only at Sydney FC for the last three matchdays of Dub season 2025-26.

Where do their youth teams play? I know they don’t have a team in the NSW NPL.

Sydney FC poach promising youth prospects from other NPLW New South Wales sides in the absence of a dedicated academy side with Skye Halmarick being signed from NWS Spirit for example, but other than that they rely on import players to bolster the rest of their playing list.

The locals mostly play for other NPLW clubs. This isn’t uncommon at all even for teams with NPLW teams.
This is the case for other Member Federation comps also because players like Caitlin Karic opt to jump ship elsewhere despite their A-League club having a reserve side but some players decide to play interstate as well.

So there is no continuity. It’s no wonder that the pathway for future Matildas is so narrow.
Possibly, but personally I don’t mind where they play. If she holds a deep connection to her local area and club (perhaps her girlhood club) then she should be allowed to go and play for them. In an ideal world they should be fully professional athletes though.

Agree that there needs to be proper pathways for future Matildas prospects and ideally full-time professionalism in the Dub but I don't mind players like Shelby McMahon and Leticia McKenna going to play for Gold Coast Knights and South Melbourne Hellas respectively for example in the offseason either especially if the connection is there.
