I'm the old guy who remembers when Ajax won the European cup with Johan Cruyff & still just remember Arsenal winning the double in 1971 Div 1 & FA cup. Now they after another double PL & Champions league, what the fuck is in the name, we all know what we mean.I prefer just good old GEN Y ignorance. I take it you are GEN Y, as you sure as fuck sound like one. Or are you the old guy who lives near LFC?
As I tried to explain, there are many ways to play football.work got in my way but my didn't this discussion keep going re attacking football hahaha
Bringing up the past as well - why my beloved LFC in the Div 1 heydays hehehe thanks fellas great football days.
Cutting the chase - football has one thing common despite the long difference/explanation made by F u l (thanks well done)
Scoring goals wins games/Trophys we all can agree.
Our 70/80's history did as such and so did our Klopp tenure despite the different approach/skillset/food intake/pressing/quick reset yaddayadda.
Thats what Sutho is on about that I agree with.......
Attack attack - win the ball high, pass back pass back/sideways is over cooked to the max.
Many a time there was/is the opportunity to pass forward again towards the red zone but the robot pass's back to the GK from halfway or worse whilst they had the opponent on toast.
How many times this occurs in todays games - especially the APL ffs.
I am not impressed by it - retaining possession as such - I'd sooner lose the ball high up in the opponents half trying to break the deadlock than going back, way back to reset and draw out the already struggling opponent on their arse, ah but what could be the issue at hand I think ?
Lack of scorers/the Kane type/MO/for eg good ol Rushie would be having a field day turning in cross's or balls slid behind the backs like today because he had THE finish technique.
There is a reason why MO Salah has broken so many EPL records - he doesn't even have to look for the goal he knows without looking - 1v1's x 3/4 players were a piece of cake for him let alone just cutting back inside and release from out the box.
How many players do that today season in season out instead of passing it back how many times some do.
Why is PSG the talk of today whilst the others are so dour - Klopp style football.
Squeeze them in, win the ball high, quick transitions even from the back, game on the flowing run.
Oh by the way I did watch the APL GF I have to admitwas pretty dam ordinary barring the few exceptions.
Thats what the so called best this season dished up.
FYI during Klopps tenure LFC avg'd 61% possession - that is driven by the midfield utilising your backs and moving forward- considering you quote possession type football, 19/20 winning season was @ 63.5% - that is Milly/Hendo/Winny not just recovering possession but sliding balls into gaps/holes on top of 2 consistent wingbacks banging in balls from midfield work pushing ball wide approach. As I tried to explain, there are many ways to play football.
Man City plays a possession type of football, which meant they had to have great midfield technicians like De Bruyne, Gundogan & both Silvas (Bernado & David).
To combat this Klopp, played high Octane football, he had a strong defence, a very fit midfield & 3 highly skilled attackers in Mane, Salah & Firmino.
PSG also has 2 brilliant midfielders in Vinthna & Neaves, who can also hold the ball for long periods, including passing backwards, but also players with the ability to find passes in the final third.
hum, that is creativity, sliding balls to your front players left right centre or behind through defense'sLiverpool's style was nothing like Man City or PSGs, they were more direct & relied on the front 3 & overlapping fullbacks & creative genius of TAA to create the goals. There was little creativity in the midfield in Milner, Henderson & Wijinaldum, they had a great first touch & able to transition ball to front 3 very quickly
heavy metal does that wears out players but that is the point of difference between winning and losing - survivin the toll is due to having to play near on 60games a season.& when the ball lost, they were able press & strangle the opposition midfield & this worked brilliantly, hence why Pep called Klopp his greatest adversary & won many trophies & pushed Pep's teams all the way. However, this took a toll on the Liverpool midfielders & while fit, they ran a lot more than their Man City & PSG counterparts & they were burnt & never the same players.
Correction - AL is trying to play the game the leading clubs achieve but lack finesse, attackers capable to finish consistantly nor backs who have the vision and skill anywhere who we're talking about. So in summary, Man City & PSG played a more possessive type football ala the A-League, they just have more creative midfielders (lots more) able to open up defences, instead of recycling it. Liverpool played a more direct type football, with 3 amazingly skilled attackers.
I agree with you on the A-League, that they lack the fitnesse, that is a given, you are a businessman and you cannot compare players on $200K a year to players on $2-5M a year. You get what you pay for.FYI during Klopps tenure LFC avg'd 61% possession - that is driven by the midfield utilising your backs and moving forward- considering you quote possession type football, 19/20 winning season was @ 63.5% - that is Milly/Hendo/Winny not just recovering possession but sliding balls into gaps/holes on top of 2 consistent wingbacks banging in balls from midfield work pushing ball wide approach.
While their style was famously known for quick, "heavy-metal" transitions rather than lingering on the ball, their control of matches steadily increased over the years.

PSG is as mobile as LFC was back then imo thats what I see.

3 amazing attackers or any cannot do their craft without the engine room delivering or wingbacks plain and simple.....
Sorry we're way off thread title but nicer to talk about eurosnob football hahaha
Actually, they’ve played some pretty good games against each other.Yeah but the weekend's Final was more like Grimsby v Swindon Town. Let's not gild the lily here.
Too right I am therefore I'm careful what I try to express whereas you quoted the AL orginally robbos.....I agree with you on the A-League, that they lack the fitnesse, that is a given, you are a businessman and you cannot compare players on $200K a year to players on $2-5M a year. Oh agreed re next level mids ala Pirlo/Modric/DBryune/Iniesta/Xavi - Hendo/Milly/Win not to that but done the job all that mattered for the record stands agreed there. As for Liverpool, when I talk creativity, I talk about Modric, Pedri, Vinthna, De Bryune, Bernado Silva, Inesita, Xavi, Liverpool in the Klopp era was one of the best teams in the world, with world class players but none of them were in the midfield. Hendo, Milly & Winny did a great job for Klopp, what Klopp wanted, but creative genius they were not.
