2026 World Cup Squad

If McGree is out, I’d be crying out for Adams to be selected. He plays that inside forward role really well and has also played plenty centrally. I can’t think of many other players who fit a similar profile to that and who can deliver in clutch moments like him. I’d call for Younis too, but he’s a different kind of player.
If we were stretching further out in the talent pool, I can only really think of Lachlan Brook who is a similar sort of player in the A-League (maybe Yull). But neither of them are close to NT standard.
It’s almost like we needed a little left footed guy who can dribble and score and who maybe performs well in leagues like the EFL Championship… 👀

They shoulda at least made the training camp but it doesn’t look like they will.

D'Agostino reported as having a leg injury. He was never going to make the squad but some depth in camp for training was important.

If McGree's absence allows for Robertson to start then I'll be less frustrated. It opens the chance for Hrustic while Metcalfe has runs on the board with his better play in an advanced role.

In more of a numbers game, a McGree absence should open the door to include Bennie. I think versatility probably gets you in. Trewin has great cards but it's also less likely he'll feature much but can slot in should emergencies arise.

I think Hrustic gives Popovic the easy call. If these guys don't leave the pitch with wat turning our kit to a dark bronze, I'll be livid. Hrustic has unfinished business and I'D still have him over someone like Boyle to score a worldie but also to blast it over numerous times. They can all score on their day.

When good chances are presented they simply need to do better as we don't know when the next is coming.

What I like about Velupillay is he has unpredictable runs which confuse defences. Some like Metcalfe or Hrustic are too predictable.

Repeating myself but final roll call.
Okon= Inbound and will they even do an official announcement? Maybe Monday morning.
Goodwin= Unlikely but might board with Okon.
Younis= No way he'll be flown over now.
Mabil= I'd personally have him get one final go against Mexico but his season is so late and others are simply ahead in Popovic's taste.

I've put Bennie there as I rate him higher than Silvera. There's definitely no "should be's" when it's come to the Socceroos right-back position. Trewin is a centre-back depth piece but also an option for a defensive midfielder or right-back. I'd be willing to take Borges-Rodrigues or Silvera as the backup right back but I'd need to replace an attacker/midfielder with Bennie. I'm taking Bennie regardless.
It's a world cup but I would feel better with the freshness of picking Silvera and Bennie. We've already seen a very refreshing, solid play but Italiano at RWB. Mabil was also good on the wing. Juric by contrast less so but it was at least different to predictable Duke and Boyle play. Juric was better against Curacao and was starved against Cameroon.

Separate post for Balard. Has anyone heard anything on this? Disgusting omission!
Haven’t heard any reason why he got axed but I agree it’s quite unfair. Hopefully we’re surprised and he’s a late arrival. Speaking of arrivals, coming back to Sydney tomorrow morning!

Nothing on any of their Instas.

Sod it I'll just write here as I can't quote either of Joey Lynch's video posts. Can't wait for all this content and the WC fever is really starting to build up!

Surely Hrustic is the main beneficiary if McGree is out. Can't wait for these friendlys, will Irankunda start? Or be Popas game changing sub against tired legs? Will Popa continue with Metcalfe in midfield or move him back to the wing?
Tete Yengi would be my replacement for McGree, he does his best work dropping deep, his technique might not be worldclass at times but he creates space for others, links up play and would be difficult to matchup on no matter the level.
