With the final reffed this way then you can just press high with all reward and no risk because if you get beaten you can just foul and stop the play

but I guess that begs the question, why haven't other teams tried the same strategy for the finals?

The standard of refereeing across the finals series is different and because of the inconsistency between match officials other teams may be penalised more harshly if they try the same strategy as Auckland FC.

Great so Sydney lost the grand final (at least we made it) and Spurs might go down. Fuck.

in the end the crowd and ratings are big

just don't understand why finals can't be refereed like a normal match

is the theory that casual fans are more used to rugby league/AFL so want to see argy bargy
I just don’t think it helps grow the standard of play, I’d rather see the best teams win the league via the quality of play rather than fluke to win a one off game.
It was Aucklands first win at home in 6 games which proves this point.

I get the grand final is important but that was a poor game of football so I’m not sure if it will get people hooked to watch the league next season.

I need to see the goal again for Okon's positioning. 2 mids away in the kill zone. This is why we can't afford sleepy casuals at a world cup and I guarantee Irvine and O'Neill will be a step behind when someone volleys it in. Remember Eriksen in 2018? Same stuff.

Finals in football are famously poor. German Cup tonight and I'll probably fall asleep.

It depends on the league run too but the A League is generally close so a good run in of the final 6 games with multiple clubs is probably more entertaining.

Add pro-rel and I’m sure it will add more meaningful games alone, finals is just another cup which I understand the context of how important it is here.

Okay this is funny though!!! 😂 (2Pac reference)

It appears NSFW content can’t be previewed here. Won’t repeat the word obviously but it’s a black guy wearing a shirt that says the N-word then underneath “never ignorant, getting goals accomplished”. It appears he got in trouble as he put a hoodie on.

Cameron Howieson adjudged best on ground in the A-League Men grand final and awarded the Joe Marston Medal for season 2025-26.

Props to Auckland, they were clearly the better team. But fuck me we shoulda scored. Need a good striker next season and preferably to keep Joe Lolley.
