Agree with the FA cuts, too many staff. Could everyone please calm down? The Socceroos will get $10.5 million (USD I think? So AUD$15 million), just for being at the World Cup, a lot more if they progress. Even subtracting the costs of the WC, back in the black.

So the FA's financial loss along with the APL news which makes me wonder how things have been going underneath the surface? The game needs to be better run it's simple as that no excuses blaming it on other codes/external factors.

No disrespect but if the game relies upon making World Cups and even going on a potential deep run then its not a reliable way to be sustainable.

Maybe they need a better financial model?

yer as my ol man would say, after paying the debt $6.5M is better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick !
Could be more correct how deep we go but fact of the matter is that is pittance looking ahead another 4yrs till next decent pay check to help run the game.
Staff salaries around 100+ of them, travel, ingoing outgoings, they need alot of help Barca.

Been like that since we qualified in 2006……..

Yes, should be massive cuts 140-180 staff if correct, is a joke.

If only they had a long term plan to grow the sport, the fixation on the short term has always been the sports major undoing for a long time now.

Remember these strategic plans they released what have actually achieved for the sport?

Perhaps maybe they should have a plan how to grow the sport and popularise it from the grassroots at up, rather going from the elite top down no wonder there feels such a disconnect at the grassroots level to the elite level.

yep short bridges.
I just read an article about Arsenals owners agreeing and sticking by the long term plan with Arteta.
Despite the years of coming up short, 3 times in fact and the years before bit by bit, looking who to buy age wise who to off load and keeping an eye on the core cycles of City/Pep LFC/Klopp and their player pool re ages and planning/predicting when their hot runs start to go on the down scale.
Now thats looking ahead regards to a title win and they are EPL Champs 7yrs in the making !

The FA and before is stuck in a financial bubble due to their feet in the mud not looking to a long term plan for grass roots UP.
This is their barrier/anvil mindset IF they stretch the resources in fear of WC qualifying failure.
The fear of losing their jobs, putting their neck out.
Got to be a huge reason why JJ left, he knew so much had to be done but couldn't gain the support but for the Championship to start with.
How can such a huge sport keep delivering the same ol same ol in 2026 staggers me.

40% of that money goes straight to the players then I think it's 50% if they progress. Think it was the 2nd highest pay rate at the last World Cup of all the countries.

Then with all the travel, staff etc after that it's probably not a huge amount that the FA make.

yer I saw something as such overnight it was ugly.
There was an article firewalled by Slater about it all I could see was the Board should be sacked haha
Maybe he's right.

Can anyone get into this one below and post ?

I really have no faith on the ex Stan man for he's typically full on commercial outlook imo.
Gorrick ? anyone comments ?

Seriously look at these 3

Seriously you got to question the leadership for as mentioned through a golden revenue period :
"Despite a commercial golden era for FA, with revenues climbing to an all-time high of almost $140 million, an explosion of its cost base and a series of significant one-off expenses – mostly related to now-resolved disputes with the Australian Professional Leagues – have chewed into FA’s bottom line to an alarming degree."

So as the bank balance grew they increase staff costs OTT ! as long as more was coming in OK but like WTF.
"The extra revenue brought in was almost entirely offset by a rise in employee costs, which jumped from $49.8 million to $63.1 million in a single year. That includes an increase in short-term benefits for “key management personnel” of more than $2 million, of which $810,000 is going to former board member Jaclyn Lee-Joe for services rendered in relation to FA’s launch of the PlayFootball 2.0 registration platform."

Seriously ???
A major source of the recent FA-APL tension related to grey areas in the A-League’s independence agreement, and in particular how certain money, including product betting fees – the royalties paid by bookmakers to sporting organisations for the right to offer bets on their events – should be split between them.
Too right JJ you dug in your heals in and rightly so !
APL can't have it both ways - you wanted your league you got to cover your own costs !

"There were also disputes over who should bear the cost of referees, as well as FA’s entitlement of 10 per cent of all inbound transfer fees to A-League clubs. The previous FA administration, led by former chief executive James Johnson, was determined not to cede any ground over these matters, but the new regime has taken a different view."

LOL
A further $3 million was spent on legal settlements, while another $3 million is listed as “business transformation costs” following a mass exodus of top executives over the past 12 months.

Milking our registrations and revenue - top executives my arse but typically they are a ok got their handy payouts.
Utterly pathetic - this is getitng worse and no wonder why the FA/APL done a deal and this is not good for the levels below whatsoever.
Am I wrong.

Heather Garriock has done little to alleviate the current dual international crisis the Socceroos are facing and the selection policy for both the Socceroos and Matildas is still flawed as Popovic and Montemurro are being given free rein to choose who they want in the playing list whilst we end up stagnating in comparison to the Asian powerhouse nations like Japan and South Korea both on and off the pitch.

yes I tended to think what is she doing for as we can see not much comes out in the press.
Thanks for that intel.

15 million loss after a 8 million loss last year? That’s ridiculous and just lets the sport down.

Surely changes are needed to made in how the sport is run, if this is not a wake up call then I don’t know what it is.

The other sports must be laughing at us right now too.

yep done the double and more ! worse pollies thinking what is the point ever supporting this train wreck code.

yer the typical changes announced are cut the internal costs for what time do they have discussing growth and investment ?????? not a chance.

They have since the NSL days - this is looking worse if I'm not wrong.

It’s interesting because they made 140 million in revenue so it’s not like they lacking in making money, and given they will get the World Cup money as well it’s seems to be an issue of financial management rather than making cash.

Again it goes to back management and a long term plan to grow the sport instead of short term fixations.
