So where did they fail or not comply with the ACL standards?

The DID comply with the standards (I assume the secured a stadoiumd eal) but as per the article:

they weren't eligible to receive a place in the ACL2 as runners-up in the Australia Cup.

Maybe not but it didn't happen to us and I couldn't be happier.

Now if they had actually WON the Australia Cup and didnt get in even I would have supported their claim.

essentially the AFC does not want semi pro clubs in the comp. They don't have swanky corporate boxes for the AFC stooges.

I think it was also the logical fallacy that no other cup runners-up ever gets to qualify for continental football anywhere in the world. For example, City won the FA Cup but already qualified for the UCL. That means they give their UEL spot to the Prem, not to Chelsea.

If they did win the Australia Cup though (which they didn’t) then I can’t see any fair argument in excluding them. The rules say that cup winners can qualify and therefore that extends to clubs of any division.

Average crowds this year were around 1000. European club tournaments have more prestige than Asian club tournaments, yet they can play in the Europa League and Heidelberg can't play in the ACL Two. Give me a break.

Their men’s and women’s teams are doing well!

European club tournaments have more prestige than Asian club tournaments, yet they can play in the Europa League and Heidelberg can't play in the ACL Two.

The difference is that SCU Torreense won the Taca de Portugal whereas Heidelberg United were only runners-up in the Hahn Australia Cup yet Football Australia still wanted them to take the cup winners' spot even though AFC were inevitably going to say that they were ineligible anyway.
