Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Lol i completely lost it at that. Was literally the decision that turned the game, we were threatening to finish them off at that point.
When you throw in some other questuonable calls for simple things especially late in the game id hate to think we may see a pattern leading up to the final...

Huge win to get one over Auckland. Three points and showed the Kiwis that we can take it up to them. Failure to win would have handed Auckland a psychological boost. We started well and those 2 goals in the first half set up the win. That goal from Pasquali was a cracker. Most annoying part was that we conceded just before halftime. After that we just focused on holding on to that lead. I must admit that Auckland side is quick.

Still can’t believe that Yuki was booked for a clear foul on him outside the box, and how was the other incident not a penalty when our player had his head nearly taken off !

Nervous moments at the end but glad to get the win and start off with 3 points.

Upfront we are struggling with Swibel. I’ve tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but we need a better striker upfront.

Now we focus on South Island United on Saturday. Win that one and we have qualified for the semi finals.
There was also a very clear hand ball in the dying minutes of the match, Auckland defender, in miles of space, the ball bounced up at him and he tapped it down like he was playing basketball....

If we can finish on top we will likely play a Bula or Soloman kings in the semi, you'd take that anyday especially in Auckland.

I've observed the first sign of weakness in our team, we find young quick ball moving teams uncomfortable to play against. Melb city youth and Auckland reserves make the likes of Preston and st albans look like they are playing in slow motion.

Swibel is dead set killing us, you can see the midfield 2nd guessing themselves when they win the ball because he offers little movement and option. He is big part of the "slow' problem.

The positive is we are probably only 2-3 moves short in the transfer window from being complete.
I agr4ee about Swibel.. Cant fit both him and Bonada on the same 11 no matter how many times Sinisa tries...

I doubt we will see Painter-Andrews for the remainder of the Leaders Group stage given the injury he sustained against Melbourne City Academy team. I hope I am wrong and we see him against South Island United. If Painter-Andrews is not on the squad list for Saturday's match against South Island United and we win, I would rest him for the Bula match to allow him to be ready for the semi final match.

Bonada up front and Yuki out wide should be the play.

You go back to the championship and see how agressive our ball movement was with Aguek/Lavalle, you hardly ever saw our mids turn and go backwards.

He simply doesnt work and continues to stifle our attack.

I miss that front line of Aguek and Lavale. The pressing and hustling that Lavale did was unmatched. He was looking for the ball and provided a target upfront.

Without repeating myself, a minimum of 4 players signings are required to improve the quality of the squad: 2 forwards, 1 Centre Back, 1 Winger. That would mean Mesorouni and Cocks would largely be bench players, but Cocks would be used as an impact player in the last 20-25 minutes to run at defences.

@southmelb - who would you look at from the other OFC Pro League teams that we could potentially sign that improves the squad?

Based on what we saw last night, that means we will have the following starting XI against Heidelberg:

Van Riet
Saristavros
Skapoulas
Dovison
Papadimitriou
Brown
Durso
Di Lorenzo
Angelatos A
Angelatos G
Killick

All these players will need to play the match of their lives in order to get a respectable loss at Olympic Village.
