I don't know what thread this goes in thread

HAhahahahahaha your probably a touch young but at but at one stage this was a pickup line aimed at every big breasted barmaid in Melbourne..

hahaha "5 Cougars thanks" .. what a throwback.
Yeah I was 12 when this one came out but picked up the sense of how popular this line was. Great marketing.

Our wages for staff in general are perfectly acceptable which means that we don't need the extra incentive of tipping like in America for example. Hence it's a bit of a lottery for service.
It's fascinating how German tipping is going up and and up but that still doesn't motivate a lot given the meagre wages.

Your right Australian wages might actually stifle good service. When I come home there are a lot of baked backpackers who aren't there to do a good job and the service and idea of regular customers coming in due to good staff suffers.

I kind of get it though that any extra mile goes unnoticed by management and doesn't lead to any worker benefit.

A relative of my wifes worked at a very high end Italian restaurant in Sydney back in the day the kind of which Kerry Packer was a regular customer along with other high net worth individuals. They used to give tips to the staff in the hundreds of dollars ( not all of them ) as guys like that appreciated really good service. Again, comes down to incentive I guess, if your customers aren't great tippers etc, really a chicken and the egg kind of thing.
