He’s injured so maybe not?Reminds of the goal Arda Guler is going to score against us in Game 1.
It's not even defending Popovic but I'd have to check it Segecic was available when Brattan and Caceres played but the NZ games were there too.Segecic is one of only 3 players in the Championship this season who is aged 22 or under and who scored more than 10 goals (along with Will Lankshear and Jordan James who both also scored 11). Popovic more focused on playing 36 year old Brattan and 33 year old Caceres. Could bring himself to start Brattan in a cut throat qualifier against Japan but didn't see fit to even bring Segecic on off the bench in either of 2 friendlies against New Zealand after him flying across from the other side of the world. You've got to earn the jersey... unless you're Brattan, Italiano or Herrington in which case you just walk into the starting team! The bloke is a walking contradiction. Who will be the next Segecic or Triantis?
It's poor form by the players too. I think this generation is very impressionable and this is an understandable reaction to getting mixed signals from the coach while another nation lays out the red carpet treating you with respect. One thing you will need to accept is that players like Segecic and Triantis (and a few before them and I'm sure a few to follow) made a concious choice to play for another country. It was they that signed the paperwork. Perhaps you should ask yourself why it is that some players get a run when they first come into the squad and some don't. It may have something to do with what goes on during the training sessions before the match.
That's because they're not responsible for the decisions another individual makes. If you are angry about it then either direct your anger at the person(s) who made the choice you don't like, or just move on. Like it or not, the decisions were made by Segecic and Triantis. If you want to know what drove them ask them. Segecic always came across to me as a big headed individual, crying he wasn't getting a national team call up when he couldn't hold down a starting spot with Sydney. I would be surprised if he ever amounts to anything but a flashy show pony. Triantis is more of a loss but it was his call so you have to respect and accept it.Popovic and the FA have taken zero responsibility for this. I hope internally they're reflecting on what a catastrophic fuck up the whole process has been and how it was handled.
I'm equally frustrated that the bigger media agencies have not raised the issue and even leant into ostracising the players - which was fuckin ordinary imo.
I think there needs to be pressure on the FA about this, why it is the role of the coach to look after dual nationals (it shouldn't be), and why we have no strategic oversight by a technical director. Is the technical director position vacant or have they gotten rid of it?
Is it too early to start an off-season transfer thread?
I knew I was missing somethingSomething of a traditional thread. Apologies apologies I say winter for the Northern hemisphere players and perhaps we can anticipate the majority of transfers there.
I can't think of too many. Mostly loans really. Ryan, Gauci, Peupion. We might see Luongo seek minutes.
It's the mismanagement by Popovic that pushed them away more than the pull of the other nations. These guys were U20 internationals and spoke highly of their goals for Australia. It needs to be asked what changed after having committed so much already to Australia. That's because they're not responsible for the decisions another individual makes. This is an unknown to us (at least to me, others may have an insiders view). When Popovic says a player needs to earn the jersey (I agree with him) it's not inconsistent that some get a start or game time on call up and others don't make the bench. What goes on in training also plays a big part in earning the jersey. Both have cover feature media days and then didn't play. You also must wonder about how they mixed with the squad and responded to the system.
That's right and I'd like Popovic to comment on that. Maybe one day there will be a tell all from both sides. This is an unknown to us (at least to me, others may have an insiders view). I'm not angry at Segecic or Triantis for their decisions. They're entitled to them. And I think they were influenced by our mis-management of the situation. That's because they're not responsible for the decisions another individual makes.
