It's not even defending Popovic but I'd have to check it Segecic was available when Brattan and Caceres played but the NZ games were there too.

It's exactly that. Starting Brattan and Caceres in crucial away qualifiers but can't even play Segecic in NZ friendlies.

You're right. Italiano, Herrington just walked in raw. Good on them as they did brilliantly. Oh, remember throwing Matthews in Bahrain away? Teaguebin China. He should be confronted with a big chart of his contradictions.

It's poor form by the players too. I think this generation is very impressionable and this is an understandable reaction to getting mixed signals from the coach while another nation lays out the red carpet treating you with respect.

Both have cover feature media days and then didn't play. You also must wonder about how they mixed with the squad and responded to the system.

I think there needs to be pressure on the FA about this, why it is the role of the coach to look after dual nationals (it shouldn't be), and why we have no strategic oversight by a technical director. Is the technical director position vacant or have they gotten rid of it?

That's because they're not responsible for the decisions another individual makes. If you are angry about it then either direct your anger at the person(s) who made the choice you don't like, or just move on. Like it or not, the decisions were made by Segecic and Triantis. If you want to know what drove them ask them. Segecic always came across to me as a big headed individual, crying he wasn't getting a national team call up when he couldn't hold down a starting spot with Sydney. I would be surprised if he ever amounts to anything but a flashy show pony. Triantis is more of a loss but it was his call so you have to respect and accept it.

Thread 'Australian transfers 26-27 Summer'

Something of a traditional thread. Apologies apologies I say winter for the Northern hemisphere players and perhaps we can anticipate the majority of transfers there.

I can't think of too many. Mostly loans really. Ryan, Gauci, Peupion. We might see Luongo seek minutes.

It's the mismanagement by Popovic that pushed them away more than the pull of the other nations. These guys were U20 internationals and spoke highly of their goals for Australia. It needs to be asked what changed after having committed so much already to Australia.

Once they turned good they got stuffed around and then the other culture they were around at home treated them with respect and made an offer that had been planted in their head by family and agents.

This is an unknown to us (at least to me, others may have an insiders view). When Popovic says a player needs to earn the jersey (I agree with him) it's not inconsistent that some get a start or game time on call up and others don't make the bench. What goes on in training also plays a big part in earning the jersey.

That's right and I'd like Popovic to comment on that. Maybe one day there will be a tell all from both sides.

Triantis sulking like a petulant kid when Teague received his cap wasn't a good look either.

Triantis went a year without being credited for great club form so his frustration and confusion is understandable.

I bet Matthews responded very well to the training set up and the others struggled.

You also wonder how the player leadership group responded and maybe even had a conversation with the coach if there were detrimental aspects to their presence. Irvine and Behich know what mindset is needed.

I'm not angry at Segecic or Triantis for their decisions. They're entitled to them. And I think they were influenced by our mis-management of the situation.

I'm angry firstly at the FA for not having an aggressive strategy for and resourcing to support our dual nationals. No technical director. Infrequent contact. Left the responsibility with the coach, who has enough to do and conflicting interests.

I'm angry secondly at Popovic's mis-management of situation (imo). While I don't believe he should have had the responsibility for this solely with him. Bringing them into camp then not playing them or in Triantis's case not even adding him to the game day squad was poor. His messaging was to earn your stripes, then he'd fast track other far less deserving players. Mixed and inconsistent messages.

I'm frustrated we haven't done what we reasonably can to influence the situation and even more frustrated we don't seem to have learnt our lessons.
