'national sporting organisations must have at least 40 per cent of their boards comprised of directors who are appointed by the board, as opposed to those elected by its members.'

Wait - they want a large chunk of the board to appoint itself??
An insane rule. They should comply with a caveat that as soon as the government changes the stupid rule, the constitution reverts back.

And they should put the word stupid in the constitution when referring to the temporary rule

Great summary of our congress system. Hopefully she does a summary of the one below

well, that saying too many cooks spoil the broth reigns supreme imo and says it all where we are to this day.
I'm getting past beyond caring just go enjoy my games and viewing.

Aka bureaucrats?

Maybe this is reverse psychology from the government

The last time they intervened they tried to make things more democratic and it got less democratic

This time they are pushing to make us less democratic, maybe it also does the opposite?

It’s no wonder nothing gets done too many mouths to feed.
I can see why James Johnson quit for Canada which seems to have a commercial approach to governance.

I'd much rather a more democratic approach than we have. A "commercial approach" means even more autocratic governance than we have now.

I've got a great idea - Capital Football can run it for us! They're already in the capital! Maybe they can get some government funding talk happening with the pollies!

If that happened, FA would be dead within a year.

dictators often claim that if they have less accountability they can get more done but as messy as democracy is it tends to outperform autocracies
“No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.”

— British Prime Minister Winston Churchill addressing the House of Commons in a speech on 11 November 1947

I don’t think you could possibly call Johnson a dictator, for me he was someone who saw what needed to be done to get football on an even keel but was frustrated by the ‘so called’ democratic system. He managed to get some things done to put Australian football on a commercial footing but, sadly, couldn’t get the A Leagues.back under the FA umbrella which would have started to solve many of the problems plaguing football. As he said in a recent interview with Simon Hill one of the regrets he has is the fact that FA had regularity control but not commercial control of the A Leagues.. That shows to me that he had ideas on how to get professional football out of the mess it’s in. I would defy anyone to suggest that he wasn’t the best administrator we’ve had probably ever.

I'm not calling JJ a dictator, just saying a dictatorship is a bad idea

I also think the a league being under control of the fa is a bad idea. We disagree which is ok, I could be wrong I could be right but in a democracy the majority getting there way at least has some legitimacy as the majority view on average is more likely to be right which is why democracies do better than dictatorships over time

I would much rather improve our democratic system as at the moment member feds are the voices of cliques rather than voices of the grassroots

- reduce quorum numbers to force a vote in a member fed
-scrap the zone system
-make nominations open
-dilute grassroots votes less on mfs boards
- reform womans council to be genuinely independent rather than just extra votes to special interests
- (controversial) have at least some weighting for how many participants a member fed has. Tasmania=NSW seems a little crazy to me

Do we need all of that to run the professional leagues? What I am trying to say is that JJ had many ideas for running football on a much more commercial level, let’s face it the A Leagues are going nowhere at the moment.

I don't think Australian football = professional leagues though, there are 3000 clubs, national teams, millions of participants. How much priority the professional leagues should get and how much independence I think is best decided democratically rather than by you or me or JJ

Democracy within the sport sure but when you are trying to run a professional business such as the A League then too many cooks spoil the broth.
I wonder how many people V’landys has to get approval from to run the NRL.

Well that would be an argument for reform of how the apl runs. Not sure what the best model would be
Perhaps an independent board where all members (clubs, pfa and fan) vote for one person with discretionary powers?
