Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

I am still annoyed about last night. I hate just giving up on trophies that are there to be won. I don't care that it is the Dockerty Cup. It is there to be won and lifted for a three-peat. We had the perfect chance for a clean sweep of titles this season, and we may not get that opportunity again for a long time.
Id be more than exstatic to still do the treble as is mind you.... talk about getting back on the map... we would be the whole fucken map or atleast all of Oceania! Hahaha

Mentally i think it will demoralise the team if we dont win the ofc. If we win it you can look back at the npl games given up and the dockerty cup and argue that it was for the greater good, if we dont pocket the 450k and come home from Auckland empty handed its going to get rough.
Thing is - we now have to put all our eggs into one basket that is the OFC Pro League. Now it no longer of if, but a matter of MUST win the OFC Pro League. That will pave over the 3-0 losses to Dandenong Thunder and Oakleigh, and the cricket scores we will experience against Heidelberg and Avondale.

Bring home the OFC Pro League trophy, the $450,000 winners cheque, and that should give the team a strong impetus to go deep into the Australia Cup and hopefully win the NPL Victoria competition, which we have not done in 10 years !

I'd bite your hand off for a grand final win and playing in the Aus cup final at a packed lakeside lol
If Hellas wants to send a serious message to the Australian football community, then lifting the Australia Cup in front of a sold out Lakeside Stadium would be nothing short of extraordinary. It would be one of the biggest upsets in Australian football history for the last 20-30 years.

Fully agree... the focus should be here...
1. We win the OFC at all costs.
2. We win the AU cup @ Lakeside
3. We retain the Championship..
4. We take out the NPL.

We are a few (4) players players short from a proper run at the Cup (as we have mentioned previously) atm and we are (2 ST and a DF) short from retaining the championship.

This squad can win the NPL if it doesnt burn out.

We are stuck with this team for the OFC but under proper conditions frim weather to reffing i dont see why we cant bring it home as is..key is to get to the final with a fully fit squad.

Like southmelb says, if we DON'T bring home the bacon from Auckland then there will be added pressure to salvage something from the season ... We have a very talented, bloated, squad. Built for silverware. If we dont bring any this season then its all going to go downhill very fast.

All joking aside, I will happily forgo EVERYTHING else this season for that one trophy...

Absolutely spot on !

If we can pull off what you have stated in terms of silverware, then we will look back on 2026 as the year we reasserted our dominance over Australian football again.

In terms of refreshing the squad, probably we could look at this in terms of the four sections of play: goalkeeping, defence, midfield, forwards:

Goalkeeping
  • Shalamanov-Trenkov should be delisted at the beginning of the transfer window.
  • Retain Charlston who has been inconsistent, but should provide sufficient coverage
  • Start playing more Van Riet from the U23s team who looks promising.
Defence
  • Another good Centre Back is required to help Eliopoulos and Jankovic in terms of managing workloads
  • We have O'Sullivan to back up Painter-Andrews
  • We could look at an improved back up for Lampard. Gorr-Burchmore shows promise, but after the OFC Pro League ends, he may face limited match time behind Lampard. Perhaps something we look at for the Australian Championship later in the year.
  • Inglese can be a backup to bring on with 20 minutes to rest players.
  • Coveny is a youth player and should play VPL1 for the remainder of the season.
Midfield
  • Pope needs to look for a VPL1 club
  • I wouldn't mind another Central Midfielder to compliment Pasquali and Giannakopoulos. Perhaps something we look at for the Australian Championship later in the year
  • Leech has been handy. Menelaou needs to step up a bit more.
  • Angelatos, Papadimitriou and other kids will require time to further develop. Long-term future assets of the club.
Forwards
  • Lackay and Singh should be delisted
  • Retain Swibel for the remainder of the season
  • Sign two new strikers (hopefully the rumours are correct)
