World Cup 2026 Australia thread

If Souttar does make the final squad our CB s should be Circati,Burgess,Herrington,Souttar,Trewin and Rowles. If he doesn't that opens the door for Geria( experienced and plays safely as Popa likes) or Degenek( very experienced but slow especially when he has to turn).

Trewin has been average and poor each time. Outrun against Venezuela, stable yet redundant against Colombia and ineffective against Curaçao. I think he's best for the next cycle despite his versatility.

Against Curacao he was playing at RB -Popa was experimenting and though he wasn't outstanding I did not think he was poor or ineffective.

I felt he was put there to avoid anyone else getting injured and to just be out there somewhere. It was a wasteful deployment.

I would think he was trying to increase his options if he includes Trewin in the squad combined with not liking any of the other RB options. Post match he said he thought Trewin did really well and had trained there previously.

A bit of tangent but man, as grim as Poppa ball can be. Rewatching some of the old ange games does make me appreciate the defensive mindset.

Fuck me that game against Thailand.........
Towards the end of Ange's time we tried to play aggressive attacking football but the only way we seemed to score was through Timmy in general play or a Mile set play. Ange did very well with what was available to him. I'll reserve judgement on Popovic until after the Asian Cup but my gut feel at the moment tells me that he was the coach we needed two years ago but may not be the right person to get the best out of our up coming generation.

They're not the only ones saying it! We 100% should ask the question and offer Arena a squad spot. He should be our sub forward.
From that Volpato article recently it sounded like the FA is working hard to try and convince Arena play for Oz. There is clearly a push happening behind the scenes. It said something like that their selling point is that he can be a bit player for Italy or Australia’s star.

We fell into the same delusion that the USMNT is doing now - except Timmy delivered and Pulisic hasn't for the USMNT since 2022 Qatar. Our fullbacks were there to feed balls to Timmy, they had no clue how to defend just like the USMNT that will have trouble against all three Group D opponent that struggle against roaming attackers. We had one way of playing just like the USMNT now - that dries up and they are cooked.

I wonder how all the Americans who know nothing about soccer are coping with the fact that Christian Pulišić isn’t as good anymore. The American media hype him up like he’s the second coming of Pelé (RIP).

Forgot GWS vs Richmond...

A lot on which is a fun distraction from everything else. Good weather in Europe and a spring in our step. WC is priority but before you know it Bundesliga 2 comes rolling around.
