If you drive up High Street heading north every second shop has a little label saying Pan (insert mountain region here) Brotherhood Social Club - Shopfronts bought with raffles and bake sales 80-90 years ago worth mutiple million dollars to developers now.

The oldies bought them hoping their kids, kids, kids would still do their weddings and baptisms there, their 21st and engagement parties... Greek dancing classes etc etc.. Little did they count on their darling Spiro marrying a skip girl he met at uni and her insisting that marble lions and paintings of the Parthenon were NOT part of her bridal "theme" .. hahah Sad thing is one by one these will all be sold off and passed on to charities because the youth arent interested in managing them anymore...

These clubs need to change with the times. Modernism them like Marconi club have. I see it with the Sydney Portugal Club.. there is some push back from the oldies so some changes haven't been made but the board, despite my negative experiences with them, have done a good job in using the space to make money. They are trying to keep everyone happy. Good business people.. just not great with the football side of things.

Greeks in Sydney only care about Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs.

I know heaps that go for the Roosters.

WHo Are the "others" you mention mate? So far all I heard of was 6 PLUS Olympic 7????

talking in our NPL long time clubs even the recent ones from what I can tell have/had regular stable ground they use for years unlike SO, they have been on the Belmore tightrope for nearly 2decades as far as I can recall.
tFl mentioned of the small community of Portugese - even have their sound stable ground for decades in very close vicinity to SO.
Inner west - people mention Earlwood, where portugese Fraser Park is Marrickville back in the late 60 into 70/80's every shop used to be greek owned business's.
How come these smaller clubs who used to be in PL3 actually long ago got those pieces of land, Dulwich Hill another 5mins from the ol greek Marrickville enclave that club has its small ground.
Mono, all these areas are like being around Albert Park, used to be working class, used to buy cheap back in the day etcetc the last 20yrs all those areas land is gold nowadays.
Don't mind me I'm just pissed SO is a basket case.

Nah not Souci, well at least not when I played there, it's a Greek/Italian-Anglo heavy area though.

I am talking ancient Greek and Italian migration though, a lot of mates from that area, their families moved straight after World War Two. Nearly 100 years in Australia.

Anyway there are more Greeks in Sydney than there are Macedonians in Melbourne, or Croatians in Sydney etc and both of those communities have strong clubs, so there’s more than enough of a “market” to have a strong club, as has been demonstrated for most of Olympics history. I know every community has its own cultural specificities, but I’m confident the ingredients are there for a resurgence if it’s done right

Agreed. And to be fair, there have been times when they were drawing the highest average crowds of any traditional club in the country
