Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

I think this is where we miscalculated last time. We chucked in the Hume game with a weak lineup and failed to beat Auckland 2 days later anyway. Same mistake cant be repeated. Auckland wins Sunday, we have to beat PNG and Tahiti, 2 wins from Fiji is enough.

In league play we need to come away with a split from the preston/oakleigh games as we did with the dandenong double. This keeps us in good shape, worst case we may be 3rd on the ladder.
Agree - a win against Preston and draw against Oakleigh would be a good outcome. If we then send our best players to Fiji, then we should win the remaining 3 matches (Bula, PNG Hekari, Tahiti United). That would lock in second spot behind Auckland prior to the Leaders Group finals series kicking off in early May.

The question here is how many points can we accumulate from the Preston, Oakleigh, St Albans, and Melbourne City matches. After that, the focus will move exclusively to the OFC Pro League in May. To be honest, we need maximum points from the St Albans and Melbourne City fixtures to ensure we can remain in the top 4 by the end of May.

With the above in mind, that will mean matches in May against Heidelberg, George Cross, Avondale, and a possible Dockerty Cup match will all be played against our weakest Starting XI. I cannot see South winning more than 4 points in those 3 aforementioned NPL fixtures. We would need a favourable Dockerty Cup draw in order to avoid playing senior players in that cup match.

Knights have been knocked out of Dockerty Cup already so Im not sure what Football Victoria is going to rig against us this year :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

South Melbourne drawn against Bulleen Lions in round 5 of the Dockerty Cup and the winner of the match between Beaumaris and Port Melbourne Sharks in round 6.

The first aim of the draw was to avoid NPL teams. Both Rounds 5 and 6 fixtures achieved that.

Not a fan having to play on synthetic turf...
Agree - not ideal and those conditions will suit Bulleen.

We may need to field 2-3 senior players just to provide some structure, leadership and quality to knock them off. Last thing we need is the Bulleen match going into extra time.

Bulleen are currently mid table in VPL1.

Port Melbourne is bottom of VPL1. Beaumaris is in the bottom half of State League 1 South East.

Dates for the Bulleen fixture are April 21-23, 28-30. No news yet on when Round 6 will be scheduled assuming we beat Bulleen.

Mid may will be round 6 of the cup

I think South Melbourne will have the Dockerty Cup round 5 match against Bulleen Lions at home as well as a possible round 6 fixture so it'll be ideal for us to be playing both of those matches at Lakeside Stadium with home field advantage.

Even if its lakeside the team we put on the park in the last round would find it tough going against Bulleen. Im not entirely convinced the club views this years edition as a priority. That said we have an opportunity here to quietly sneak through the rounds. Looking at the other fixtures Heidelberg, Preston and Oakleigh should also get through both rounds.

Also congrats to the girls on the 1-0 win over top of the table Boorondara, dominated from start to finish and should have won by more. Our lakeside issues affect many arms of the club and our womens team finally played there 1st match at Lakeside tonight. Hopefully they kick on with more stability now.
A much-needed win for South Melbourne women which puts our season back on track after back-to-back losses against Spring Hills and Box Hill United, and moves us up to eighth on the ladder ahead of our matchday 8 game against Alamein on Saturday which is also at Lakeside Stadium.
