Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Perhaps Sinisa plays the following players tomorrow:

Charlston
Inglese
Coveny
O’Sullivan
Gorr-Burchmore
Menelaou
Leech
Angelatos
Skapoulas
Saristavros
Dovison

Have on the bench Singh, Papadimitriou, Killick, Shalamanov-Trenkov, Angelatos.
Pope and Lackey surely start and Papadimitriou would more likely be ahead of angelatos aswell. Messarouni didn't get many minutes vs dandy so maybe him aswell

South Melbourne defeated Hampton East Brighton 2-1 in their Dockerty Cup fourth round game, courtesy of a brace of goals to Andrew Mesourouni in the 35th and 48th minute.

Nothing special today. As expected, the team was largely made up of squad players and youth.

There are serious question marks over Singh and Lackay. Against weak opposition they were poor.

Good to see none of the starting XI seniors played today. It’s important for them to rest up for the next 7 weeks ahead of hectic NPL/OFC fixtures.

Anyone else concerned this is close to the team that will have to play Auckland on Sunday? I cant picture this team getting any results in ofc.
The only saving grace is that we dont care about the Auckland game.. we seem (rightly) content on losing this for the sake of the Preston game.. the other matches are key so not gonna worry too much... What i will say though, is that in theory its a perfect final chance to see who has hunger for stepping up.... we already know that Singh, Lackay, dont have what it takes.. Coveny perhaps needs to get a cjance to show us something!
We need to be taking serious squad notes for what comes later and into the near future i reckon!

We must enter the midseason transfer window with a view to sign 2-3 quality players, particularly upfront.

Does anyone know when the midseason transfer window will open?

thoguht coveny looked alright in his half albeit against lower league opponents. Agreed he needs to be given a chance. The one thats interesting for me is burchmore. has been given the senior list spot but i think i'm more confident with osullivan at right back ahead of him. osullivan is a very no nonsese defender out there and a good size.

O’Sullivan has been a reasonable back up in the Right Back position. He has provided good coverage during the fixture congestion between OFC and NPL competitions. We have been lucky that we have faced teams in the bottom half of the NPL standings and the Dockerty Cup.

will be interesting to see what players vs auckland. I know that we can add u 23 players to the squad but not sure if its as injury replacement or whenever. Skapoulas was added to the squad in round 1 as javi wasen't available so currently we 24 players registered for ofc

Given the rumours circulating of South fielding a strong line up against Preston, then you would have to assume the following will start against Auckland on Sunday:

Charlston
Inglese
Coveny
O’Sullivan (is he registered to play in OFC?)
Skapoulas
Menelaou
Leech
Cocks
Pope
Singh
Bonada

As Ive mentioned previously, I don’t think both Singh and Lackay are up to the required standard.

It probably makes sense to send Bonada over early to focus on the Auckland match. At least we would have Leech, Menelaou, Bonada and Cocks who could add some quality to that weak starting XI.

The aim for Sunday’s match against Auckland would be to keep it tight at the back and look to grind out a 0-0 draw, or undertake one of the greatest smash and grab efforts.

One of bonada or Cocks will play at Preston. Id say which ever comes out, messarouni comes in for as much as we wish it wernt the case. Personally I actually reckon they both will end up staying back with Lackey and messarouni both coming in for them or maybe dovison

Lackay should be on the plane to Fiji for OFC Pro League which would mean that Bonada stays for the game against Preston Lions along with possibly Mesourouni also.
