Muscat would be brilliant?
Personally I'm in the boat that we need to try and attract a foreign coach.

If you do want an Aussie then maybe you try and entice Cklamovski away from Malaysia? Personally I'd like someone to come in with a fresh perspective and no previous bias or favorites from the A-League. At least that way I can sleep soundly knowing all of our players will be viewed at face value.

I guess I'm scarred by the fact that our only long term foreign coaches were pim and osiek

Pim was good quality but played ugly football, Osiek was a nightmare....do we have the pull to get a big name? I hear we could have gotten bielsa, but I asked Grok his wage for Uruguay and it is around 4 times what we pay

These players probably won’t be moved on until after the Asian Cup I think

The men's Asian Cup only being 6 months after the tournament makes me feel that we'll still be seeing the old guard after that tournament, and I'd imagine the FA will keep Popa along til the tournament is done.

I would rather we make the change after the WC, bring in a coach that utilizes a more modern approach to tactics and try and phase out most of the older guard (Irvine, Duke, Boyle, Mabil, Hrustic). Keep Burgess and Ryan around and then use the 3 years after that to carry through Herrington as our new LCB, and a new keeper to replace Ryan.

I liked Alex's first XI and his frustration with the subs is exactly where I am. My frustration is with the subs - I don't like a lot of them. I want some that will come on and either continue the same sort of pressure or offer a different sort of challenge. Kuol i think is the chaos agent I would have to upset a tiring defence. Eli Adams I though was a great call. I'd love to see him lining up at a free kick alongside Irankunda.
I appreciate the kind words Pat 🙏

It definitely won't come cheap, and it'll definitely be hard to find the right person. I'm not religiously opposed to having another Aussie coach but it's no use for us to bring in a defensive minded coach to replace the defensive minded coach, who replaced another defensive minded coach.

Out of the Aussie coaches I'd be looking probably at Milligan, Cklamovski, Montgomery, hell maybe you even give Des Buckingham a ring 🤷‍♂️

Jedinak is building up a resume, I'd like to see him with the underages given he is already with the roos atm.

as long as its not the olyroos

olympics cycle coming up, I'd blow money on a big name coach to finally get there in a short cycle

I agree you about moving on some players after the World Cup - I'm also someone that wants to believe that Popovic is just hiding his grand plan for the World Cup (stupid I know) but I am interested to know who would you consider the right Australian candidates and OS candidate post Popovic.
Muscat or Milligan. Corica has a good record.

Milligan or Montgomery, as I said the other day Muscat while he has been successful is usually with a squad of peak age players. Millsy and Monty were never afraid to blood youngsters.

I wouldve though corica to be a lower level than those two, mostly benefitting from a genrous owner?
Corica I say purely based on results. Titles with two teams. He's not my first pick.

I'd go Muscat. Incredibly successful. Titles at 3 clubs in 3 Countries. Knows Asian football. Always galvanises a team. Is a great man manager, which we'll need post Popovic. Coaches an attacking, aggressive style, but with good defensive balance. Pretty much the blueprint I wish we had now.

He'll cop the usual bias as that 'if you don't love him ya hate him' type, and ex-Victory.

I do have a certain anti- Victory bias - and I agree we will need a great man manager which he has proved to be. My bias is towards youth.

The question I would have post World Cup to any prospective manager is what are your plans for Izzo, Behich, Burgess, Degenek, Irvine and Duke. If any of them start outlining how they propose to use them I'd be showing them the door.

Izzo and ryan probably have to keep another cycle mind u

Have not heard the last Pod, but I'm finishing the Matt Windley and the Jake Entwhistle Podcasts.

There is a lot of material there to discuss - which I will in time.

Reading the last few comments there is a fair bit of groupthink in response to Popa's tenure.

One would think Aus has not qualified for the World Cup.

Popa's Roos have lost 3 games in the last 16 in his tenure, I think - to higher ranked USA, about 16th, and Colombia 13th.

Venezuela was a poor loss, but Popa experimented.

All the guys calling for other coaches to replace Popa, I reckon you have rocks in your heads!

In the Popa tenure Aus have played some decent teams - Indo ( with all the Dutch based players), Saudi twice, Japan A and B, Kiwis twice, Canada, USA, Ven, Colombia, Cameroon and Curacao ( with a lot of Eredivisie players and Dutch dual nationals).
