Graham Arnold's Iraq thread

France, Norway and Senegal await. If he can get a point, that would be an achievement.
Graham Arnold has already made history in achieving qualification for the World Cup proper, becoming the first Australian head coach to make back-to-back tournaments and coach a foreign nation at a World Cup in addition to getting Iraq's first ever win against South American opposition but of course getting a point in the group of death would be an achievement also.

I'm loving these Iraqi players in their cowboy hats. 😄 What a night for them!
They'll be celebrating in their cowboy hats and sombreros until May when Graham Arnold puts them through their paces and picks the 26 players who will represent them at the World Cup before the real work gets underway for Iraq come June.

So 9 AFC teams at the World Cup, I guess this means the AFC will have more of a chance for one of these teams to get into the r16 and beyound.
That's always been the case prior to the expansion of the World Cup though with Asian powerhouses like Japan and the Socceroos but with more AFC teams it does mean that more teams get to contend with the best footballing nations on the world stage.

I guess Arnie successfully got his team out of the group 4 years ago against France, a second tier European team and an African team, so why not again?! Plus it's easier to get through to the knock out rounds now.

Iraq is a different kettle of fish compared to the Socceroos though so even if the matchups are similar he still has a completely different playing list to work with.

You know what they do to giant statues after a while over there right?
They'll only topple the giant statue of Arnie if and when he gets the sack as Iraq head coach before replacing it with another statue of their new head coach though, with the process repeating for as long as they have head coaches making history and materials to build the statues with.

I'll check for Iraqi newspapers later but if anyone finds local links, post them.

Iraq are so used to stuffing it up it but they looked really composed. Bolivia lots are basic but very good.

All that qualifying over now.

I was actually impressed with Bolivia.
In fact both teams played a good back and forth game.
Was far more electric than our games to the eye.
