A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 23

All the teams are rivals with each other in terms of wanting to make the six and avoid the spoon but the APL prioritises the marquee fixtures like local derbies when deciding which teams everyone plays more than twice.
Spoon? Like in AFL you mean?

And what to teams do that don't have a marquee fixture, who do they play?

Of course the concept of the wooden spoon is commonplace across AFL, NRL and the A-League in that all teams want to avoid coming last, and for the sides that don't have marquee fixtures, they play four other teams chosen at random when APL carries out the fixture schedule drafting process in the offseason.

I suppose that the fact nothing happens if the teams finishes last means that nobody really cars if that is fair or not from a competetive sports perspective. From the two eggball codes I suppose it really doesn't matter but Im surprised FIFA doesn't prevent Aleague teams qualifying for international tournaments based on unfair sporting draws.

Between you and no mates half the comments on here are shit stirring

Love watching the A-League. But you really can't defend the nonsense draw. Like it's a complete shit show and isn't fair. One team gets Brisbane three times and another only twice while getting Auckland 3 times.

.....however....if the Jetties win the premiership it is the greatest and fairest competition of all time.

Leagues that split after two rounds have this imbalance.

Even teams that split after three rounds have the same, they flip the fixtures around the following season.

But each season is different with different squads etc. I get why it’s in place but it doesn’t make it stink any less

In EVERY SINGLE league in the known universe (apart from the franchise ones which I don't know much about) every team competes for points against e very other team in their league.. Points are accumulated by playing ALL rivals fairly and evenly..... why I asked what Aleagues do as it sounds strange to me.
I get your point but by rivalry I was referring to derbies.
