The league picks the extra matchups based on rivalries so Melbourne Victory would have three Melbourne derbies and three Big Blues as opposed to just the two, for example.

All the teams are rivals with each other in terms of wanting to make the six and avoid the spoon but the APL prioritises the marquee fixtures like local derbies when deciding which teams everyone plays more than twice.

In EVERY SINGLE league in the known universe (apart from the franchise ones which I don't know much about) every team competes for points against e very other team in their league.. Points are accumulated by playing ALL rivals fairly and evenly..... why I asked what Aleagues do as it sounds strange to me.
