Australian news and politics.

from the Freeman article :
He was armed and wrapped in a blanket when he was confronted by police.
Bush said police had appealed to him to peacefully surrender, but he did not do so.

Yer right I'm sure they appealed for a surrender - it was a no win scenario, the cops would have been on massive adrenaline to pop him imo.
I don't condone the bloke but without witness's what could you believe.

I would be peaking out knowing the cops will keep investigating who has assisted him.

You drink McDonald's coffee ?

A flat white with an extra shot used to cost me $5.50 at this particular cafe,

This was about 12 months ago.

Nowadays $7

It is, I have to say, a lovely little independent coffee shop which does put a lot of effort into what they are doing and what they are serving.....

But prices like that will put a lot of people off and they'll likely lose customers.

How much would it be in a McDonald's or Starbucks?

$5 or $6??

I never get coffee from the big chains.

I like bakers or little cafes.

there is one good positive to look ahead re the price rise of coffee.
Oh yes agree Ful, small bakeries etc are the go to's but I would like seeing the drop in the fandom of soccer mums with kids wasting my time for quicker service whilst they make a pointless wank baby cino - hopefully price rise's hurt their weekly budgets :)
P off please.

Don't they claim to have excellent quality? I don't know how it stacks up against other chains but probably not against small places. McDonald's is a place that has the scale to charge thag bit less for comparable products but even their prices are becoming too much.

I just drink coffee at home or take food and drink with me. Not spending all that money on a sandwich when I can pack essentially the same thing.

I totally get the scale aspect. They'd have to crunch a lot of numbers but are they offering other items than can also see tidy margins?

Wetherspoons in the UK sell so much in thinner margins. Independent pubs deserve support but the other chains complain. I don't see Greene Kings or Nicholsons opening at 8am and putting a breakfast on. That's why Wetherspoons can charge less for beer. They make a lot of headway early in the day.

I know a lot of dishes are microwaved but their suppliers are the same and the methods very similar to all the other midranged places along the high street.

You can't tell me then 16 quid burger place isn't using the same mainstream wholesaler for its beef.

One of my brother's best mate is in the wholesale meat market. They have different range of quality cattle ( as well as breeds) and so low range, mid range or high end may use the same wholesaler (admittedly they only do mid and high), the wholesaler will deliver the quality you paid for. And yes, my brother is a bastard for not sharing the HQ left overs he gets for free.

Yeah I definitely think there's a market for higher end and those will to pay for it. It's the chains and even some fancy independents abusing customer naivety that their product s better than it is.

Interviews at some of the mot famous German restaurants have said that over time they started using quicker and easier ingredients and no one questioned it and it the businesses became drunk on it. It's these burger places claiming the highest, freshest quality and charging top dollar only for it to be some frozen B grade supplier.

Don't get me started on roasts that give you just a small side of chopped cabbage, 4 bits of carrot and 2 potatoes!

they have re introduced cut pricing specials some weeks back for yer the rare times I have had it been rip imo for what it is.
As for their coffee, its alot better than most other chain groups interestingly.
I entertain some OS biz visitors and one I know well is chilean/merican.
So put aside the yank side for their coffee is crap he knows good caffience.
He was suprised when he tried their coffee, not hard to beat star bucks and their other crap.
USA doesn't have maccas cafe like here in Oz.

Soccer mums are better to look at than those dopey lycra wearing boomers with their saggy balls and spikey shoes.... love knocking over their 5000 dollar racing bikes when they are stacked up near the entrance.

Some friends of my wife's relatives sell Italian racing bikes, some of them are 5 figures FFS. Buy a car so you don't have to wear lycra is my philosophy.
:ROFLMAO: yep too funny, telling me hence why I told Mono 5K are the cheap ones.
Can't believe what they pay - tell you I'd spend 3/5K on a mega ebike - bugga the lycra let the battery do the pedalling but I'd be in fear getting chased by hairy armpit loose boob trendys or coloured hair teal lefties abusing me, my mental health would be shattered thinking I was saving the planet eh hahahaha
