NPL 2026

Alec Urosevski out for the season I’m hearing a move that’s gone terribly wrong bar the $$ for him

be interesting too see here in W.A what games go ahead if cyclone narelle hits Perth Anywhere between cat 1 and cat 3 , having done 15 years of Fifo here in the west and going through 7 cyclones , even a CAT 2 or 3 , can really destroy and throw things around

I've been having discussion with some colleagues about the amount of injuries occuring ala ACL's as above or whatever else..........
You guys reckon its increasing ? sure has to me over the years.
Coming from long time playing locally Rep to Prem1 and into my twilight years.
I've suffered a ruptured achilles and 1 ACL - in my late 30's/40 if I recall - good rehab been back playing for years since.
1 son had a knee clean up early 20's.
2nd son NPL level is going through his 3rd ACL ! @ 25yrs.

Has there been any studies done regarding the amount of ACL injuries from artificial synthetic pitches and grass ptiches?

be interesting study done/see.......
As you know here in Syd we have plenty of syn pitch's whereas Melb not, not sure about Briz/Adel/Perf.

Without any stats to back it, just memory I cant think of many ACL injuries recently.. Maybe there is something about artificial vs turf?

IMO yes, syn pitch's are great weather wise through our winter but yer contribute to the injuries.
Not enough give like grass, when your tackled side on your chances are high your knee flexed sideways whilst your foot is planted.
I saw a study from the USA being they use syn alot in NFL etc - even though not the same code it quoted 67% increase due to syn pitch's.

Our rainfall comes down in buckets - sometimes 6mths rainfall in 1/2days for eg - hence we going the syn path Plus the lack of grounds new fields end up being syn.
In club land we have gone through 2/3 weekends of washouts not once sometimes twice through the season, screws the comps all up.
Not sure what it is - is it councils here not having good drainage at grounds (costs ? over all the years) compared to you guys for all yours are grass.......

Kit man forgot to do the shorts :)
Hahahahhaa yep they’re still using the old original on the shorts - wonder what they’ll be doing this weekend with actual season kickoff

I did notice when I did my Aussie Football Database Map that Sydney has A LOT of synthetic pitches. Like A LOT. Something that my colleague that played for Sunderland last year picked up on too.

yep we got plenty alright.
Been going on for years now - manymany clubs have lobbied local councils, club fund raising etcetc for so many grounds the midweek training traffic that also ruins to playing pitchs.
Hence going syn.
The local W growth - added rep trainings/Club trainings grounds are screwed.

Yer a U20's bloke we know went down to Melb recently got a gig with the Greens.
He said he was amazed playing down there all grass whereas here pretty much every Rep level is on syn.

Its rare to almost non-existent to see NPL matches played in Victoria on synthetic pitches. It is mostly used for junior grounds if that. The overwhelming preference in Victoria is for natural grass surface. That's what struck me with the NSW teams in the Australian Championship playing on synthetic pitches - it seemed really odd.

Whilst i understand the reasons many clubs have gone that route, I also for one am happy that Marconi has stayed with the grass pitch and I dare say will so in perpetuity. But as I say, I concede that the clubs in a fairly unique position of having multiple pitches including synthetic ones for juniors/training etc so are able to protect the main pitch for the first team. Something other clubs like Sydney united simply aren’t able to do

yer chalk n cheese I know.
Look from me I'd far far prefer grass its a given.
Mind you I like playing on syn the roll of the ball is so true obviously but it is weird takes some getting used to.
Ball doesn't slow up like on grass, it keep bloody rolling from you haha

Sutho Sharks were the first pitch done way back in '07 !

Something I’d be interested to know, why was Sydney united for example able to maintain a decent enough grass pitch playing surface in the 90s during the nsl era but aren’t able to now. Is it just a matter of the cash flow not being there to put into the maintenance post nsl
