Women's Asian Cup match discussion thread

I don't really understand how people can only tune in for the final. Like these people who don't know the players or anything just seeing if we lift the trophy without caring before I dunno I guess everyone starts off somewhere
Eh, it could help in two ways. A. the entire country will be behind the girls, nobody will want us to lose and only the Japanese community will be happy if Japan win, and B. we could get some new fans if people enjoy the sport. We all start somewhere.

Me personally though? As we all know, I’ve been watching our girls all tournament and haven’t missed a single minute of a game. Held every shit and piss in for half time or full time. I’ve been following the Tillies since before it was cool and follow all the girls at their clubs. Not everyone is that committed of course but maybe the casuals will turn into committed fans.

Aye not to go to off topic because it's final day. But just anooys me like people at work are watching Matildas but won't even glance at w league. I'm like telling them that's where torpey came from I don't watch every Melbourne citywomen's match but people need to support it

Yeah it is annoying, especially since some of those people will happily pay for Stan Sport and watch Arsenal games, which is fine (though in Arsenal’s case it’s like plastic surgery: why?) but you should also watch the ALW.

I was planning on saying this after the final and may do so anyway but I really hope that we can expand the women’s threads post-tournament. Whether it’s how Sydney FC’s Willa Pearson is shaping to be the next big thing, Pom Fiona Worts’ club record fee move from Adelaide United, how Annalise Rasmussen is about to take the field for Juventus after moving from Central Coast Mariners for a club record fee or how Aivi Luik could win a treble (and already won the Damallsvenskan) aged 40 and is still going, there’s so many cool stories in the women’s game.

Hopefully we can expand the women's threads on the forum at the conclusion of the Women's Asian Cup before the Young Matildas make history themselves in two weeks' time at the under-20 Women's Asian Cup in Thailand.

The Matildas' starting XI for the Women's Asian Cup final against Japan has been named, with one change made from the semi-final win over China on Tuesday. Winonah Heatley replaces Clare Hunt at centre back, with Sam Kerr again leading the line as captain, as she has been for the entirety of our campaign, and Mackenzie Arnold starting between the sticks.
