Sign Up Now!I wouldn't say ever. Lefties mouth off about us all being immigrants bar the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community all the time even though I was born here and only ever been out of the country once (went on a cruise to the Pacific Islands during the last Christmas/New Year period).Its ALOT easier to say fuck no to ethnicity when your Australian-ess isn't questioned, EVER.
Soccerwhos as always ill get around to listening so will be interesting to hear their case here

haha imagine if this happened 30 years ago before it was so easy to look this shit up, and multiple football losers online could immediately refute what was said on a show. What a time to be alive.They are incorrect, the game had to be official competition for him to be tied to Australia.
This is the wording of the appropriate sections in the FIFA document:
2. A request to change association may be granted only in the following circumstances:
a) the player:
i) was fielded in a match in an official competition at any level (with the exception of “A” international level) in any kind of football for his current association; and
ii)at the time of being fielded for his first match in an official competition in any kind of football for his current association, he already held the nationality of the association which he wishes to represent.
..........
c) the player:
i)was fielded in a match in an official competition at “A” international level in any kind of football for his current association;
ii) at the time of being fielded for his first match in an official competition (at any level) in any kind of football for his current association, he held the nationality of the association which he wishes to represent;
iii) at the time of being fielded for his last match in an official competition in any kind of football for his current association, he had not turned 21 years old;
iv) was fielded in no more than three matches at “A” international level in any kind of football for his current association, whether in an official competition or non-official competition:
v) at least three years have passed since being fielded for his last match at “A” international level in any kind of football for his current association, whether in an official competition or nonofficial competition; and
vi) has never participated in any kind of football at “A” international level in the final tournament of the FIFA World Cup or a final tournament of a confederation competition.
It's not the easiest read, but the part that applies to Segacic is part (a), as he had not played an A international. Also important is part 2 (i) where it says that the player has played in an official competition at A international level. The game against New Zealand was a friendly, not an official competition. Therefore he would not have been tied to Australia if he played in that game.
And it’s crazy cause the Indigenous/Islander people usually aren’t the ones saying it. Lydia Thorpe is like a quarter Indigenous but does her bit insulting whites lol.I wouldn't say ever. Only time I've ever supported England in anything is football during the 90's & 00's in World Cups when the Socceroos weren't in it.
Actually yeah, scrap what I said before - this is the oneThey are incorrect, the game had to be official competition for him to be tied to Australia.

People can be immigrants and Australians at the same time mate. Thats the great thing about being arguably the world’s most successful multicultural democracy.I wouldn't say ever. I think its a fair point that patriotism appears to have gone down in gen z regardless of whether they are immigrants and it makes sense to say it has to do with progressives being suspicious of patriotism to put it mildlyPeople can be immigrants and Australians at the same time mate. These so-called progressives a lot to answer for in that regard imho.I think its a fair point that patriotism appears to have gone down in gen z regardless of whether they are immigrants and it makes sense to say it has to do with progressives being suspicious of patriotism to put it mildly
Its definitely a change from a generation ago (most patriotic songs in australia and usa are left wing!)
Clearly patriotism can go wrong - whether something mild like minorities getting their loyalty qustioned or something big like invading poland....i guess we find out whether there are some big negatives of having an antipatriotic culture
And it’s crazy cause the Indigenous/Islander people usually aren’t the ones saying it. Lydia Thorpe is like a quarter Indigenous but does her bit insulting whites lol.

I see your point but I was implying that she would partially fit her definition of “white coloniser”. It also frustrates me that she thinks all Indigenous people agree with her, when realistically they all have different views, and the Indigenous people I’ve spoken to have not held her views.I’m not sure you mean it this way, but describing someone as a percentage Indigenous can come across as culturally insensitive. It's a non-Indigenous way to describe identity and doesn’t reflect how many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples understand identity.
Identity isn’t about fractions for indigenous Australians. It’s about cultural connection, kinship, community recognition, and lived experience. It's something relational, not measurable.
The idea that someone can be more or less Indigenous based on a percentage comes from colonial ways of defining people by blood. It can be dismissive or exclusionary, even if that’s not the intention, as it can come across as questioning or invalidating a persons identity.
It's not our place to determine indigenous identity. It's respectful to recognise how people identify and their connection to community and culture, which is central to how identity is understood. That last bit is the really important bit in my experience.
I am curious what the benefits of patriotism are. For me, regardless of my political views trying not to be patriotic is like trying not to be attracted to women, so i might as well enjoy my patriotism and try and avoid the negatives that can come from itIt is right wing nut jobs who have made patriotism less appealing.
If Pauline Hanson’s incoherent, racist nonsense is what Gen Z understands to be “patriotism”, then I applaud them for going off it.
I'm much the same - I think most Aussies are proud of their country and enjoy it. But the overt faux patriotism leaves me cold.I am curious what the benefits of patriotism are. Yeah i figure if mysoginists claimed a monopoly on being attracted to women im not going to let that spoil my relationship with the missus hahaI'm much the same - I think most Aussies are proud of their country and enjoy it. But the overt faux patriotism leaves me cold.
The best article was the revenge one regarding Australia taking Ante Suto off croatia lol.Every paper has jumped on the Segecic story. Tired of being reminded of it.
