World Cup 2026 Australia thread

My history teacher in high school used to do this. Legend.
Knew an English guy so had that much leave and overtime accumulated that when 06 rolled around he just said to the company 'see you in 6 weeks'.

During 06 my dad raked in taxi fares around 6am from people going home from a friend's house as they were watching every tournament game.

Having previously been a long-term rugby sufferer, Eddie Jones is one of the worst people in Australian sport I can imagine being associated with the Socceroos. He’s one national team coach who puts out a more ill-suited, over-managed, stifling game plan than Poppa, even if it is a different sport.

He’s been riding an Stirling Mortlock intercept and other coaches successes for over 20 years.

Eddie Jones destroyed one national team I loved, he needs to stay the 🤬🤬🤬 away from another.

I don't really give a fuck about the Wallabies but some of my Rugby loving friends were apoplectic about how Eddie Jones prepared them for the last WC.Arnie would be the best one to talk to but that would not be ethical as he is now coaching another NT who may be at the WC.

I know of a Greek guy from South Melbourne who might be worth asking…

2018 is best theme imo
Each resonates differently for me.

06 was obviously special and the sleep deprivation was worth it.

10 has gotten better over time but I don't miss the Vuvuzelas.

2014 has an energy that belongs to football.

I think 2018 is my favourite as it has been 12 years since a European tournament and despite the Russian oddities it just a good time.

2022 is a happy memory given our run and it was something in defiance of the UEFA naysayers.

Finally got around to watching it.

So the roadmap is early May we can get around 10-13 players in early then the rest will join up. That's good and then we can see and have injury cover.

The camp will be in Florida and we'll have the Mexico and a second game over on the west coast.

It'll be interesting to see who isn't invited to the camp at all the it'll get really tense.

May 30 is the FIFA submission deadline and June 1 the announcement.

I found it interesting how many mentions Kusini Yengi got in the press conference.

It was a long shot but Iredale has no chance based on the comment there's no point bringing in a 9 when we've got many others who can move around. Would that include Sapsford too?

The journalists need to do more homework to have a go at Popovic if things are hypocritical. The problem is most don't even understand the game.

Popovic was asked whether players will know his system perfectly by the first game and Popovic replied he can't see why they wouldn't.

That was the perfect chance for a studious journalist to say the system isn't recognisable and that the players still seem lost and it stifles their positive club play. Popovic said he wants players to bring their club style to the national team but that couldn't be further from the truth.

Is anyone able to share this pay wall article on Herald Sun and Code Sports overnight about Mat Ryan. What is it all about?

Soccer star’s painful sacrifice to protect his family’s future

The new dad endured the 24-hour flight from Spain to Australia, had just 30 hours to cradle his son Preston and support wife Chloe, before boarding a plane back to Spain. It was another two months before his family relocated to Valencia. “It was one of the most difficult things I've had to deal with,” Ryan said

These situations can be looked at in so many ways. Maty is human so regardless of income he'll be affected emotionally. Of course his earnings do make it easier to travel the world at his convenience but that doesn't shield you from all burdens of life.

Poor guy, did he cry into his millions?

Dan the red man c'mon
He makes millions kicking a ball on the other side of the world, and flys around the world on someone elses dime. Save me the 'poor guy' bullshit. Want to stay here in Aus with your son? Then break contract, move back here and dont worry about football. Bet that wont happen.
