Anyone who doesnt make themselves eligible for the socceroos gets their passport confiscated would be one heck of a recruitment strategy :-D

Sure its a bit racially iffy but it would indicate the federal government is finally taking football seriously

Not as big a loss as triantis, i think it would be touch and go weather he is in our top 5 inside forwards for the world cup. So id be surprised if he gets much game for croatia

But clearly the strategy of calling a player up, not playing them and them leaving them out of the next squad isnt working as man management strategy
 
Remember the interviews where he weakly said he was for Australia and everyone thought it was all sorted? It never was and this is all down to stupid delays on playing high potential players. Segecic has clearly been decent for 3.5 years and we've had plenty of moments to get him capped. He loved his time for the U20 and that was the time to get it sorted before people got into his ear and his mind wandered.

Popovic has messed up big time. Does he think he's redeemed himself if Volpato comes over? Stupid games at both ends.

Segecic with a Croatian flag on his profile now boosts his transfer potential so Italian clubs will be all over him.

Yeah we just cant muck around with dual nationals when every country in the world is selling the shirt. I hate it, but its just the reality of the current system

We were one non selection off losing irankunda.
 
I wasn't convinced by the big interview where he said it was always going to be Australia. Until it's confirmed, nothing is done.

This is an indictment on everyone involved since Segecic came onto the scene.

While players have the right to a choice, our own mismanagement has lost the two best players at the U20 Asian cup a few years ago. An utter disgrace.

I've reiterated that if the player is exceptional then we get it done.

Someone mediocre still who could also play for another country doesn't need the urgency. Segecic and Triantis were the hottest prospects of a generation.

“Obviously I’ve lived in Australia my whole life, would still be nice to play for Croatia, but I feel like if I did pick Australia and to go there and play the World Cup I think would be a dream.”

Totally agree as Adrian Segecic was a bolter and would've made waves in the green and gold for the World Cup, but instead he'll be wearing red and white checkerboard and if he gets game time for Croatia in their friendlies against Colombia and Brazil at the end of the month then he's locked away and there's no way of him reversing his decision unfortunately.

We gained:

But lost:
  • Josh Sotirio to New Caledonia in March 2025
  • Anthony Pavlesić to Croatia in May 2025
  • Jake Brimmer to Malta in July 2025
  • Nektarios Triantis to Greece in August 2025
  • Ryan Williams to India in November 2025
  • Laura Hughes to Wales in December 2025
  • Adrian Segečić to Croatia in March 2026
Overall we gained two NPLW players and an NPL-level guy who never played for Brisbane Roar, but lost three great prospects, an ALM player, an ALW player and a guy playing in the ISL.

I would now be all for allowing a second switch if the player never got a cap for the country they switched to. Sega is a hot prospect but Croatia are a very good team. Not sure why they requested the switch if they didn’t see him as a good player.
