Women's Asian Cup match discussion thread

That’s the point. They’d trouble European teams much more than we do. Despite tonight’s result, at this point I would say we are only the 5th best team in Asia, behind Japan, two Koreas and China.
I mean we just drew with one. Defeated another. Reached the semis in a World Cup. We're thereabouts. It'll be interesting how we go v China next.

But I also agree with your sentiment. We have a lot of weaknesses. I find us so frustrating. We have so many quality parts but can't bring it together.

The trouble is that our young players don’t inspire me with confidence either. Some serviceable players, but very very few of real quality.
We left most of the youngsters behind. Dani Galić, Anna Razz, etc. Though I’m surprised you don’t see the class of players like KCC and Wini Heatley who did get picked.

You seem to lack knowledge of Asian teams. Most of China, North and South Korea’s players play domestically (at the moment at least). Only us and Japan are significantly filled with players in the top leagues of Europe and North America.

KCC has been around for a while now, though still young. She is probably the last very high class player we have produced at this stage. I rate her.

Heatley is one of the serviceable ones, but not a very high class player by any stretch.

I was referring to international games. I don’t care where the players play domestically, I saying that North Korea, certainly on tonight’s form, would be a more difficult opponent for the top European international teams than we would be.

WE'RE GOING TO THE SEMIS AND TO THE WORLD CUP!!!!!!!!
Matildas defeating North Korea 2-1 courtesy of goals to Alanna Kennedy in the 9th minute and Sam Kerr's screamer in the 47th minute, with the result meaning we're through to the semi-finals against the winner of China's quarterfinal with Chinese Taipei and also qualify directly for the 2027 Women's World Cup, becoming the first team other than hosts Brazil to do so.

The North Korean women's teams have always been very strong (but wow I didn't realized they are ranked #9 despite the bans in past years!). I still remember that rainy Asian Cup final with the Matildas several tournaments ago. A win is a huge result.
