Green & Gold FC podcast

Thanks for the effort you put into organising the guests. It can't be easy getting one guest, let alone 4, so well done! Thanks for asking our questions too - it was so good to hear the excitement around the Championship and what impact it's already having at NPL level.
Fair play to you if you passed on some questions for Grazor to ask, Stu.

I gave Grazor the credit, but if you and others did your bit with some questions, good on you!

Good seeing G and G posters publicly appreciate some of our fellow forum members who do so much to provide so much content for this forum, LFC.

Fair play to you, mate!

I even think of you when I hit the iron and listen to Podcasts. I know you watch your long suffering better half, iron, whilst you listen to G and G podcasts! I do both simulatenously!
Mate - not hard being a team player that’s football and why we luv it.

I also luv not being around when the boss irons D - I’m too busy to sit around but like you I am multi tasking on other things more important :)

Very interesting point about Mexico playing US in friendlies being a money making decision and NOT a footballing one...
Mex is their own worst enemy Mono.
They could do so much themselves but have fallen reliant on the USA for years - hence putting their hands out but being raped ! In business and football.
Ruining their football imo.

I feel like a few posters on G and G take everything for granted. So it is nice to see people like you thank others in appreciation. You've also done a bit to keep a forum expert on here in another sport.

Even on the podcasts we've had some globally renonwed figures in football - Peter the scout, Tom Byers, Stefan Syzmanski ( co-writes with the one of the top football journos/authors, Simon Kuper), the American football economist, etc. It must take a lot of liaison to set the Pods up with them.

Plus all the quality Fan View articles being written.

There are also a lot of staff/mods on G and G. With so many threads, that can be an exhausting and thankless job too.

I can't keep up with all the G and G threads ATM, and I've been busy off forum. Pathetic really, as a retiree.

Interestingly Strain hasn't gotten a look in under Popovic.
I went back to have a look at a game where JS96 had pinpointed about 20 instances over a game, where Aziz Behich, had according to JS, made awful mistakes.

I had look for a while and JS was correct in about 1 out of every 10 actions! I thought Aziz was one of the best.

Inadvertently, Strain played in the same game, and made heaps of mistakes! It only came up as I slowed things down to analyse Behich. I thought maybe JS could be correct? He wasn't - most of the time!

Strain struggled though. Of course he may have improved since. It also seems that only a few Euroroos who excel in Scotland, like Miller, carry that skill set into the international arena.

Given how good Boyle has been in Scotland, I think he struggles against the higher level international teams we play - Saudi, Japan, USA, Canada, Ven, Colombia, but he is a good flat track bully, like Hrustic, against weaker international teams.

To date, Devlin, a Scottish league star, hasn't looked good in the international game either. It could change though.

I'm tied up in political activism ( sometime community work), which includes moderating forums, heavy fitness regime, social activity (includes drinking), reading for leisure, dog minding, watching live cricket in Tas Members, visiting the beach in hot weather, etc.

I'm going to respond to a post you've made in the fitness thread. I'm astonished how much you've bench pressed? You must have worked hard to achieve it.

Doesn't seem to have been a Podcast for a while?

Just heard the short Pod with the Mexican guest. Caught up with the ironing, but the Pod ran out before I had finished!

Very interesting Pod. Good questions armed with stats, Grazor, and Alex made some insightful comments.

My perception is that Mexico is one of those countries just below a world powerhouse ATM. The comments about the Mexican Div 2 not being able to play their players was interesting.

Another interesting comment was how the USA is improving in the quality of players and the improved quality of the MLS.

It has been really good in G and G Podcasts enticing guests from all around the world to appear. I've learned a lot from them.

This was a great listen. I still don't fully have my head around how Matts proposed system would structure and function. I think I need to listen again.

But it was nice to hear support for pro-rel, optimism about the game, realism about the constraints/challenges with the APL, and ideas to resolve those acknowledging those challenges.

Top pod. Football Australia needs to come up with a plan for an open pyramid with clear guidelines for each level. Not that hard to do. We should sit down with the Japanese FA, work out what they are doing and modify their model to suit us. It is a disgrace that after over 20 years of this new governing body, we still have no long term plan.

Yeah I think that's Matt's idea, practically carbon copy the Japanese system. It sounded like everyone was up for it before COVID and the rest happened.

We need a special episode on the dual national crisis.
I don't think we have one.

On a site called 360 Degrees Football, or something similar which now crops up on my FB feed, there was an interesting article.

It had 3 columns.

Left were all the dual nationals who had chosen Aus. Middle were the current vacillators. Right were the ones we have lost.

The left column had Circati, Souttar, Boyle, the peroxided extroverted Scottish striker who played for CCM, plus quite a few others, Degenek?, who had chosen Aus. It had about 10-12 players.

The middle column featured 3 - one of them being Volpato, the 16 yo Arena, I think? Suto?

The right was Segecic and Triantis, plus another, who had chosen other countries.

The article maintained the Socceroos had done well out of dual nationals. At various times, Circati, Souttar and Boyle ( when first selected), have been our top players.

There are a few posters who post here, I think who share in common watching a lot of UEFA football, who think that every player who shuns Aus is going to be a world beater.

Segecic will have to improve a lot to play for Croatia, who are now close to being deemed a football powerhouse.

IMO we have more talent coming through than ever. Now in the AL many of the young under 25s are displaying dribbling techniques effectively, not previously seen in any previous era of Aussies in match scenarios. They've had better coaching at the right age.

I saw that article. Some of its information was factually wrong and it went very soft on Popovic and the FA. I like that Football360 is positive in its reporting of the game but there are times hard questions are needed, and this was one those times imo. If you can't see the mistakes made here you haven't followed closely enough. If you don't accept that mistakes were made, we're going to make them again.

Is it a crisis? We are a multicultural country. Some players will want to represent us and others will want to represent their heritage. It is what it is. All we can do is ensure we provide a good environment where players on the fence will want to represent Australia.
