Promotion and Relegation is vital for Football in Australia

I honestly think that “Flogari” cops a lot of this because of his ethnic background. Some people feel he has “betrayed” his ethnic heritage. If he was Caucasian he probably wouldn’t be treated as he is. In the old days you had Mike Cockerill, Michael Lynch, Marco Monteverde, Sebastian Hassett, Tom Smithies, and the list goes on. Newscorp had a large football team, now they don’t. If you exclude podcasts, there really was only Rugari and Joey Lynch carrying the flag for Aussie football journalism.
The recent birth of Football360 has filled a hole and changed things a lot, well done, good on them! 👍🏼

And Joey Lynch cops it too. What’s with all the hate?

So he’s getting bungs from the APL, to write glowing articles about the A-League. And the APL have threatened to remove his “access” if he doesn’t write positive articles about their plastic league. Makes perfect sense…………
It's not as specific as that (at least not from my perspective). Any professional league in Australia will revoke a journalists access if they bring to light things that significantly undermine the league's power brokers. The journalists have to weigh up the benefit of publishing something scathing and/or undermining with the risk that they will lose access to players, coaches, clubs, that offers them material to generate easy content.

It's much easier to produce "good enough" content from inside the purple circle, than it is to do so outside it. Being freelance gives you more flexibility in this regard, but not complete freedom, because the same applies. But if you work for a media agency, and you burn your ability to generate simple/basic content, you're employer won't be happy with you.

It's not cloak and dagger where Rugari gets a yellow envelope in a car park at night from some shadowy figure from the APL. It's simply known not to bite the hand that feeds you. It's an alignment of common interest - I want to maintain my access to players and clubs, and the league wants their power to not be undercut by the media.

Access comes at a price, and if you don't think that influences what journalists publish, I applaud your sincerity and integrity. Having said all that, I can't speak to what motivates Rugari. He may genuinely think the A1/A2 split option is the best, but we have reason to be skeptical. Further, Windley is promoting a model he thinks is the most likely to work, not necessarily one he likes the most. He has said almost exactly that. He's being pragmatic and I can appreciate the motivation for doing so - but I don't think it will be sustainable and therefore will do more damage in the long run.

He does, but not as much as Rugari
Oh havent seen that. He tends to get talked up by people who dislike Rugari, but no one seems to escape twitter without copping it at least from somewhere...

All good points. I don’t disagree with any of them. So assuming he is unwilling to lose that all important access and so can’t be overly negative about the A-League or APL, and accepting he is paid by Nine Entertainment so he does have to worry about readership, clicks, engagement or whatever you want to call it. Is it really reasonable to expect him to deliberately lose that access, or his job? As you said, he isn’t a freelance writer. I didn’t get a straight answer to my question about what is lacking, expected, or wanted from his writing. It just seems to be acceptable to denigrate him without actually saying anything specific about why. I don’t understand. The same to a lesser extent with Joey Lynch.

But, as far as I know, thats ONLY Sydney Olympic that has a seperat entity
South Melbourne too, 2 seperate entities there.

ABN search on Sydney Croatia, would indicate something similar as well.

It makes sense, you won't be advised to hold risk and make a holdings group (kind of) but in turn, you become the Selco RIP Rangers meme.

IMO Australia has too much of a trend and winner following culture for any club to have some decent backing for 50+ years. You would assume that the clubs that were forced out of the top flight, would have such anger from supporters that they would turn up in numbers and force that connection in the planning of A-league etc but it never happened. People just move on from football here. It's cycical support.

21+ years of exlusion my friend and it showed clearly in the championship what backing is available.. when you tick all the boxes and still ARE 'failed' (not on merrit) from a so falled premier national competition time and time again (not once or twice yeah?), dont have any real alternative until last season, are forced to play in a local league which rightly or wrongly means your supporters arent really enticed beyond the die hard or can simply just stay locally in the heart of winter or watch on tv.... what did you expect exactly? We still pull same crowds as City and more than WU did after all that even if you believe the fudged figures thw APL puts out..

You mention forcing a connection with AL... how does one do that when for all this time that connection is severed by one side, based on the idea, not that you are not good enough, but that you are too effnik? What connection does one have with someone vehemently opposed to it right down to its core? Ohh thats right the connection according to the APL that 'hey you should just move on and support an AL club'.... there can never be a connection bc its not (and was never) wanted from one side!

As for the hatred, rightly sooo it very much is there and despite their wettest dreams of us dying away we not only battle on but make a point as Australian champions as well as fyling the flag internationally! Hows that for connection!

Id check those 'facts' champ....

You can google that both AUSC and OFC is a 'license'.
Licensing for the OFC needed to be in place to compete in difderent fifa federation as a pro club champ, but nice try!
If we want to further back and for a laugh, South Melbourne Hellas died (traditionalist European football mindset) when it merged with Melbourne Hakoah lol
Hahaha try again champ, hakoah merged with the reserves in the 80s and had zero impact on the senior side or the existing entity beyond growth but thanks for playing!

Yes, a seperate entity had to be made for that. Not including all the business risk factors.

zero impact on the senior side or the existing entity beyond growth - agreed! but it was the death of the actual South Melbourne Hellas and a new entity named South Melbourne Hellas was made with the merger with Hakoah. No need to get your panties twisted bro.

Franchises all around, Aussie style.

Enlighten us....ill wait for you to share the seperate entity FACTS please..... seperate ABN, seperate trading names, seperate squads etc, something, anything!

Tell me who Hakoah merged with champ at SMFC for US to need to create a new entity? and how it changed South Melbourne Hellas NSL entity? Points for bonus question if you get it correct!

You are right and why little things like truth or facts get in way of a good story as long as all those others like you hit like!
Franchises all around, Aussie style.
Convinced me, AL logic..
You are mcfranchises so SMFC HAS to also be one so that you feel better...

Wanna compare ownership models, board structres next champ?
