Australian Football TV rights

Stan on Youtube is dreadful. 2 minute clip and only 55 seconds of it is football.

It's really only an advert to get subscriptions.
I don't think it does what it is intended.

Not to mention, EPL only allows 1 screen. Tried to watch on my phone and couldn't. Practices like this that force you to pay more or do more don't actually want me to do it.

I was surprised to see that they get hundreds of thousands of views. I'm guessing it's mostly overseas viewers.

I think there's a lot of people who just don't want to pay extra for unnecessary stuff. There's also situations where people leave early for work and want to watch the highlights during lunch and such.

I had to watch the highlights at work, but because they won't let me have more than 1 screen, I went to YouTube. It's a cost of living crisis, people are cutting wherever they can. Companies are just getting greedy.

Ch9 are losing bucket loads of money. Especially on Stan/Stan Sports and I expect that when it comes aeound to the renewal of both the EPL and UEFA Club competitions they will bid but not too high. And I think another broadcaster or streaming service will go all out for these two rights deals.

Either DAZN or Paramount Plus.

I think Ch9/Stan Sport's goal is to eventually get the NRL on an exclusive deal.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Regarding the precautionary measures granted to LALIGA against NordVPN and ProtonVPN in defense of its clubs’ audiovisual rights.

The court ruling recognizes the responsibility of these technological intermediaries and requires them to implement measures to prevent access from Spain to IP addresses that illegally broadcast LALIGA matches.

EPL are really trying to KeepUp here. 🥁😅

It's nothing new, the Premier League have always wanted to create that type of platform but they just never got the chance to do so given how much time they're spending cracking down on the illegal streaming devices amongst other things.

if KeepUp actually did that, it would probably still be around.

I'm actually quite surprised FIFA+ is still free and that they aren't trying to market that to be the place to watch World Cup games live. Maybe they're waiting until next cycle. OFC qualifiers were already on there.

'Free' at the moment. Just like everything was 'free' in the beginning.

Youtube now is practically unwatchable with the amount of ads they jam in. Streaming services with ads too.

And they wonder why piracy is on the rise again.

I find it so hard to watch YouTube on my TV now with the ads. Thankfully mobile app and website isn't as bad with ads yet.

While I dont disagree with you just an observation about how impatient we have all become these past 5-10 years... If I had said to you, 20 years ago that you can watchANHTHING at ANYTIME and add breaks were only every 10 mins or so and ONLY last 50 seconds (and that you can mostly skip them) you would have called me crazy and gone back to pressing pause on the VCR so you can skip taping the commercials for the movie you are taping for your colelction.....

It's a good point - but focuses more on the enshittification of products and services. Of course, money talks and creeps its way into things, but online TV/videos/YouTube were marketed as a way to escape that sort of thing.

Now, on mobile apps and on my computer, it doesn't seem an issue. TV app though is... seems a bit of overkill, even compared to normal TV ads. It would be interesting for me to time the duration of ads if I was to watch a replay on YouTube of a WWE show (they have a quarterly show that's on YouTube in Australia), compared to say... an hour of the news or something. It feels like YouTube have them more frequently, specifically when watching on a smart TV.

It is enshittification.

And there's a great book about that.

Yes I understand the irony of linking Amazon. King of enshittifaction.

"enshittification" is my new favourite word :)

Singapore first?

Australia??
Premier League is quite popular in Singapore and it would make sense for them to launch their new streaming service there first given that they have the Asia-Pacific office based there.

Got Germans saying an EPL channel would be fan unfriendly. They've clearly never used NFL game pass. The only issue would be pricing. If the EPL can price their content fairly then they'll have the masses signing up.
