Interview with Les Scheinflug

Why resent your neighbour for doing better than yourself?.... work harder to have what he has......
And yet you resent Rugby, not understanding that the NRL is same as AFL in Sydney.
You do not seem to understand your dislike of Rugby league is similar to our dislike for AFL in Sydney

Mate I honestly have NO opinion on Rugby, of any kind, one way or another.

I can totally understand your dislike of AFL (Im more teasing you than anything else with this) but what I'm saying is that AFL is NOT Soccer in Australia's biggest enemy... its actually Soccer in Australia....

I 100% agree with you on your last sentence, maybe where we disagree is when that happened, I am ethnic just like you had seen the same problems repeating for the last 50 years I followed football in this country.

Problems have been going on for longer than 50 years mate.... Ethnicity has NOTHING to do with it.... I guess that is always going to be the bone of contention between us.

If you look at where the Aleague is now with unbiased eyes can you tell me you cant see similarities to the last few years of NSL? What did locking out existing "effnik" clubs achieve exactly? What about the non-effnik clubs that where/are still around ... what did locking them out achieve?

Agree on your last sentence, that was the biggest mistake they made with the start of A-League, excluding some very strong football fans
Don't agree with first sentence, the APL is not strong, but the fan base, especially for some clubs is still strong especially Sydney.
Melbourne is big problem, but then I've always said that wink wink.

Im not talking about the fan base mate.... Yes its obvious some Alegaue clubs have massive fanbases compared to the "old clubs" Im not discouting that and thats good... but the shaky finances, the genreal crowd apathy and the troubles with crowd violence are the same if not worse..... Its been 20 years after the "clean up" you'd expect a bit better by now if the wog clubs where the only problem holding soccer back no?

As for Melbourne.. Love them or hate them Victory have a massive fan base..... AND the NPL clubs (at least some) are not insignificant either...

TBH the Sydney apl fan base I wouldn’t call strong it’s fickle.
Inconsistent but for the derbies.
No doubt it looks good in the large stands and presented but damn it could be so much more if Lowy the dick cared for the bigger picture.
It could have been so much more - you lock out a massive support base and here we are.
Shame real shame.

In the end we all need each other - our 2 states are the big ones that it’s all there if only we had a open comp.

Why was Lowy a dick?

Why was Lowy a dick?
Bc he shut the door on eventual pro-rel for the ALM/reconciliation between "Old Sokkah"&"New Football" pretty much from the get-go; implied that those clubs would only get anywhere near top-flight ⚽ in 🇦🇺 again 'over his dead body'..

At the end of Lowy's reign, 2015-16, we had made 3 WCs, after 32 years of no appearances, won both men and women's Asian cups. WSW had won the Asian champions league.
I was on a Sydney Derby with 61k in attendances, remember thinking 16k was a poor crowd, Melbourne Victory was ave 25k a game for a season or two.
This was all before the internal war and the APL that destroyed a lot of this momentum.

His only notable fuckup was gifting the keys of youth dev to Z grade KNVB blow-ins.

So instead what should he have done?
really - I have to respond in respect for you robbos.

I'm saddenned your right behind the path you follow but as you say I chose luv, so do I and luv is expressed in many ways eh.
We were on the path qualifying for WC from the 06 brigade, built/founded/went through hell/struggles due to the ol game with all its warts - the league you didn't connect with as mentioned but that foundation was still the backbone making WC's not just 06, infact could i say next 2/3.
Without the past there is no future - the following years of qualifying wasn't due al - the past foundations for al had banished the nurseries, the AIS folded, al clubs had feck all Jnr teams (only a couple of clubs started from memory) let alone set up for how many years ahead, heaps.
Sure nothing like all the bubble and squeak/fizz attracting big crowds wonderful - the ol sockah had its heydays as well go figure with large crowds.
Interestingly BOTH suffered cancers/internally/externally BUT ol sockah built a generation and more plus Clubs are standing and will end up being there long after.
The cancer started before end of DH Lowys reign for it was falling as you know, crowds were disappearing long before the franchise owners started their takeover (why they did start their takeover for their product was/is floundering), he had to step down hoist his kid in to take the Kings fall over 3yrs, seriously what a prick of a Dad, I couldn't imagine asking my son to take my fall.
The momentum ? - crowds dropping off, crowd violence, whilst DH Frankie was at the helm, he assigned ARU/AFL/NRL Ceo's, seriously that was good for football ? it was good for his game/toy, thankfully he got the slap in the face he deserved, karma is a wonderful thing.
The stubborn rich ol man could have brought peace to the game and get it together for his business sports event model is like a new product, in time the hype wears off and the proof is for all to see no matter its in APL's hands now, it was doomed either way.
Our game is like looking at a gift horse in the mouth, not aligning our game, the have's and the have nots.

Look at the Roos now and for sometime (what set this back), oh Irakunda and the likes are gonna save us watch this space, heard all this as long as you have - trouble is the last 2 decades and ahead we're gonna be waiting and waiting as well.

The name of this thread and other ol legends would be watching and thinking wtf has gone on here.
Luv ya mate just replying from your question - my pov that I'm sure some may agree and not.

Wish we could have taken advantage of that incredible 2006 world cup qualification with some more sensible decision making. Being an aussie football fan is a life of pain :D

Put it this way it’s the history to make a stuff up after something good happens, a good example was the APL’s own goal to give away the grand final rights.

As a famous Italian defender would say about an north London team, but for us ‘It’s the history of Oz football’ 😄

What the current Socceroos, who won as many games in the last WC as did the GG did in WCs in 06, 10 and 14.
Yeah Irakunda is one of the best young players I've seen, he's 18 years old, will he make depends on his attitude and work ethic.
As I have said to Mono and you, I didn't not follow the NSL, I did, I just did not find a club that met my requirements just like you on the ALeague.
Football in this country has always had problems both in attracting crowds and producing great players, outside of Kewell and Viduka, we have not produced world class technical players.
You keep talking about us as new dawners, yes people who has followed football in this country for 30-40 years played all our lives, died partly after Iran game in 1997, ethics and Aussies alike, who just like me just didn't find a team for us in the NSL, but knew of Crino, Farina, wadey, Yankos who suddenly found a team to follow under the Lowy regime.

Timmy Cahill is my hero, how many Premier league's sides would he start as CAM?

LFC, you all talk about all these wonderful players the NSL produced, I say outside of Kewell and Viduka, who were both high class technical players, we have not good produced technical players in any era.
Love Craig Johnston but he was a workhorse.
Football has totally changed and even countries like Scotland, who during GG era produced high class players, but now struggle, because like Australia, both countries preferred hard working players to flair players.
Today players have both fitness and skill.
Australia struggle and always has struggled to produce players with both these attributes apart from Kewell and Viduka, well Duke's was best when fit.

This is also true (though I'd quibble and say bresciano and Neill were technically passable. Grella despite being a brutish defender also had good handling speed and in the new era rogic and mooy were technically decent)

^

This era can't even produce an Emerton, Lazaridis, Chipperfield, or even a Clayton Zane.

Oh man o man
Oh kudos we finally matched GG 06 in 20 bloody 3, thank Christ we finally did nearly into aged care for me when next hahaha
As for the wonder kid chicken before the egg we wait and see.
Re your on the fence NSL period your call.
My aleague out isn’t not finding a club it’s not a comp that I relate in todays world when opportunity is there to correct the ledger and flip the game here finally.
Footballs probs is easy to see re crowds - if we had more wogs we don’t need neutrals hahaha
As you well know just as today you have your mix of work horses and pretty players - that hasn’t changed it’s always a mix.
There can only be so few brilliant players with their feet.
TC your hero - ever wonder how Chris Wood is playing epl right now - infact just watched his Forest beat United at OT and scored - yer TC would cut the mustard.
Our mate Graz above quoted a couple here’s another Zelic good on his feet.
Yep the rest make up as the workers right now we got oh fit donkeys.
What’s really telling in your posts is we still haven’t produced class players near Dukes and HK being you say that.
With all the intel
All the new methods of coaching
So much fitter but Not faster
Since their days - but we wait it’s coming eh.

By the way don’t think my pov was about the past players per se but their legacy due to the old systems - That prick Lowy I’m dirty on he’s no game saviour but commercial ogarlord that put us right behind the 8 ball ! And we’re still playing catch up and a disjointed game !
