I'll pop these into the spreadsheet tonight

as expected, no Riverina teams. Kind of surprised Yoogali SC didn't enter as a statement, but I do know some of their team (the ones who left their Griffith clubs to play NPL) have started to filter back into their clubs in Griffith/Wagga.

ok updating this now - the only team that doesn't appear to be on my database (unless there's a name change) is: Shellharbour City FC

I'll go into my full depth thing a bit later, but I am going to call out the regional NSW clubs taking part in 2026 (regional being defined as outside of the Sydney, Gosford, or Wollongong associations, with the exceptions being any clubs clearly located outside of these regions, but competing within these associations). All but one of these (Macquarie United) are competing for either the first time, or the first time since 2023 - leagues listed are their 2025 league:
  1. Macquarie United - Western NSW - Dubbo (05. Western NSW Premier League)
  2. Highlands Association - Southern NSW - Highlands (Metro South Coast/Wollongong leagues - no senior team in 2025 from research)
  3. Shoalhaven Association - Southern NSW - Shoalhaven (06. South Coast/Wollongong District League)
  4. Shoalhaven Heads Berry - Southern NSW - Shoalhaven (06. NSW - Shoalhaven Bolden-Blackmore Shield)
  5. St Georges Basin - Southern NSW - Shoalhaven (06. NSW - Shoalhaven Bolden-Blackmore Shield)
  6. Goulburn Stags - Southern NSW - Southern Tablelands (06. NSW - Southern Tablelands Division 1)
  7. Lithgow Workmens - Western NSW - Bathurst (06. NSW - Bathurst Premier League)

So two NSW federations combined, the self proclaimed cradles of football civilisation in Australia and where apparently 75% of anything related to football in this country is ever thought of, is only entering 3 more clubs than ONE Victoria?

762 clubs in NNSW + NSW combined as per my database.
66 (assuming all NPL NNSW and 2nd div have entered, as they aren't in the draw yet) from NNSW, and 165 I have down for NSW (again, assuming all NPL enter), so that's 30% entry rate for NSW as a whole.

Victoria, I have down as 313 clubs, with 194 assuming all SL2 and higher clubs are entering (so will have to look at what I've done wrong here because I'm way off Brenton's count, which is 62%.

So... yes

I think your post is 32% wrong and 9 out of 10 people would agree....

That's a whoosh over my head hahah

But agreeing with you here, NSW really needs to pick up it's numbers with this. Will be interesting to go by percentages actually just looking at Sydney/Gosford/Wollongong, rather than the state as a whole (and then would also do the same for Victoria, and essentially just count Melbourne + Geelong)

hahah just talking shit on a Friday arvo... Disregard by facetious percentages... just trying to point out that little old VIC is fairly invested in the round ball, despite the common narrative.

Yep, it's pretty certain that's the case - VIC has been good at actually capturing a lot of the state though, comparatively.

ok, so taking a look through - Shellharbour City is a club I missed previously on the database having only played in either Womens or Junior Leagues (it appears) since 2024, so they are a new addition to the database, having rebranded last year from Shellharbour Junior FC

Just Metro NSW (Sydney/Gosford/Wollongong) appears with 448 clubs in my database, which would have 158 entrants using my numbers earlier. That's still only just over 35% so not a good look for NSW...

I’ll bite. There’s a lot less travel for clubs competing in little old Victoria versus the travel for clubs in NSW. NNSW one of the few regions to have less teams entering this year (all others up except ACT). I reckon that’s because the NNSW clubs could play anyone from Tweed Heads to Central Coast, and includes hiterland towns like Gunnedah, Moree, and Narrabri. (Tweed Heads to Gosford is 750km).

Whilst true, I did a number crunch on just the Sydney/Wollongong/Gosford clubs (considering only 7 clubs entered from outside that region in Football NSW this year), and it's still only about 35% of clubs entering. That's not taking Northern NSW into account either
