NPL 2026

The hopefully the numbers stay decent at all clubs until it’s too “cold” and all the ethnics visit the motherland

its probably the most decent start to an NPL series i have ever seen in terms of numbers. i wonder if the championship had anything to do with it?

June, July period you always see a drop off. Lazy people rather watch it from the comfort of their homes rather than face the cold, and as always you get European summer holidays

I think we’re starting to get some momentum re word of mouth more than anything.
Championship got a lot of exposure through Club websites/SM etc......
P/R helps bring in some fresh blood.
The Sutho resurgence/spend.......
SO getting alot SM of its issues and the CCM link originally.
Sure early days - lots of fam etc still in summer mode Plus many (talking grass roots players) haven't had their season started yet.
Though all in all great to see.

Sounds like the crowds have been good in NPL NSW so far. Great to see. I'm hoping its the momentum generated from the Australian Championship.

Same down here in Melbourne. Once the cold weather kicks in, it's just the diehards.

Solid crowd at St Albans Dinamo over the weekend for both the Geelong vs Knights & Dinamo vs Dandy.

i think during the course of the day, they had over 3,000 in attendance.

Yet everyone wants a winter national league, makes no sense if no one will go.

Was watching the NPN NSW highlights package on YouTube. It would be good if NPL Victoria had a similar highlights package as well.

I noticed a few grounds in NSW have synthetic pitches. Is that common in Sydney? You just never see that in Melbourne.

This SMFC1959 - rain fall difference of our cities.
We may have dry periods then we get bucket loads of rain in 2hrs or half a day.
Whereas your cbd get drizzle more than downpours like us.
Hence more syn pitch's - some seasons we may suffer 4/5 even 6 wash out games at grass roots - screws everything up, associations have set back up weekends but sooner or later it get too close to the whinging pre season cricket fraternity.
So syn pitch's allow for game to go ahead near on every weekend.

Melb CBD stats
  • Seasonal Total: Approximately 124mm–150mm
Sydney CBD stats
Total Season Avg : 200mm - 300mm.
.
Plus they are good for the amount of "training traffic" weeknights - grounds not worn out playing on dust.
Don't get me wrong farfar prefer grass !

Synthetic pitches are the ANTI CHRIST.

Synthetic pitches are the ANTI CHRIST.
from our purist perspective absolutely I agree.
From a grass roots player outlook better than having washout after washout.
This is the Oz uniqueness and the game not being #1 - not enough grounds to cover the amount of clubs/reguistered players.
Your at mercy to the local councils - some are such narks close grounds with the slightest rain bastards.
Drainage sucks big time at many grounds.
The fight for ground availability for make up games, some age groups just don't get to play their make up games - pref obviously is for Prem1/AA1's.
Fight with cricket near our end of season for grounds as mentioned.
Yep hate syn pitch's but our rainfall they make sense.
Weird playing on them despite the true roll of the ball, keeps bloody going doesn't slow up like on grass, the bounce is different, I find I can't connect as true with the ball like on grass whereas some people can connect sweet as like as if on grass.
Every muscle gets tested on syn as well, hence more injuries/ankles/knees.
