Steve Rosich Interview

Sounds like the goal is to have a few past issues cleaned up by the end of March. Admirable but I won't hold my breath.

Not sure the structure of the league is set to change...

Its more how he manages what he has...ie sale of the Mariners, next media deal, next PFA agreement, Western United, Connection with players base etc...

In short the CEO managers what the broad give him....wholesale changes are with the APL broad not management...
I don’t necessarily agree with that, CEO’s should be advising changes that can/should be made. That is the type of proactive CEO that is needed otherwise he is just another pen pusher.

See what you mean... but the broad I think changes you want are well outside his paygrade ,,, he could make recommendations to the broad ...
My guess is the broads primary requirement is to get the media deal done, get the PFA deal complete, get a 14 team competition up and running, lift crowds, and lift ratings...

Then think of other things...

Way way way way to early to see if he is successful...but he should be judged on what task he is given not achieving broader football objectives ....

Gallop made a lot of mistakes... but he was often blamed for things he had no control of...

Lets not bury this guy if he follows the broads instruction... have a go at the broad because by looking at the CEO it protects the broad for their mistakes...

I don’t know if James Johnson followed what the FA board told him but he sure made a hell of a difference in the 3 odd years he was CEO. That’s the type of dynamism that’s needed if professional football is to get out of the hole it’s in.

JJ had two advantages first he had the full backing of FIFA, and second he was tasked with the break up of FFA, and setting up a different structure. He did an amazing job and IMO the best sport administrator Australia has seen in arguably 30 years.

The APL, CEO will never be given that freedom.

Plus he is less than 50 days in the job, hard to determine how good or bad he is.

I will give him 150 days to me make a call.

How will I judge him....on how he managed the tasks he was given.

The change in structure of the league is between FA an APL boards. Not there respective CEOs

I think fans want to see some action, if he is just going to rubber stamp whatever the board says then they may as well have stuck with Conroy and saved themselves money they don’t have. 🥴

Don't disagree but I think anyway its way to early to make a judgement call...

The big issue from the past IMO is the clubs had no real plans in place once they got control from FFA.

They still don't... Whether the current CEO can change the current structures I don't know as it would need both APL n FA approval. Further would he be allowed to even start the process is questionable.

Beyond that I am not sure anyone's knows what they want

and here n lies the problem with the game no different how we have become regards with red tape.
We have one thing after another when you apply for a building/house reno through council - its become a paperwork compliance nightmare !
Here we are with a sport not much different - FA > Fed > NPL's > grass roots - APL > AL Franchise's.
FA APL have to work together and we know its a game of snakes and ladders.
The APL CEO needs to win over his employer in turn they have to convince the FA and they both come to party on a $ agreement for thats what it comes down to.
Its a over complicated system for a football game - we can only hope and we have for how long Middy.

Then what has he been hired to do? It seems like a waste of money for an organisation struggling financially.

He has been hired to manage the A-Leagues ...media deal, sell the mariners, wage deals, get sponsors.... expand the league maybe...get better media overall.

When I look at other sports especially AFL, NRL & Cricket, there support bases are hugh, with professionalism in management in place.. add the commercial media support they get.... it is hard for any other code, to get a look in...

With regards to NRL and AFL their support base is pretty much (at least with AFL) 99% of the whole sport... It can never be the same for the APL... They dont even appeal to some of their past fans let alone fans of global and grassroots local football

Mid, correct he has been hired to manage the A-Leagues and pretty much the latter you put down.
So in the big ger picture it no matter to the rest of game that overall is the back bone AL leans on and use's.
I don't buy a healthy AL helps the NPL I feel its the other way round.

Put aside the better supported other codes for its a no brainer forever and a day and not going to change - what is holding us back is 2 football entities working against each other - more so the APL closed league.
Really what is the point wishing for the best when its one piece of the football fabric.

It doesn't help with two different governing bodies trying to run the show.

This is pretty much how the EPL came about, with the FA & FL both trying to run the game.

I have been saying this for years but a correction - one is the governing body the FA this other is a business franchise using the FA space hence the cut the FA receive.

Yep even though some difference but similar 2 push me pull you’s.
Lord knows why all who support the leasing side don’t get that a peace pipe needs to occur because franchises need income more than the latter.
Franchise business is struggling to get new inferred parties in the general consumer side of the world that has far far more people to bring through the front doors but a unknown new club and work on a new crowd following ?? Good luck where are the bloody numbers coming from ? Casual neutrals ?
You know business Sutho - only the new broadcast deal will provide a lifeline and for how long.
Good luck to the new ex broadcast boss - he may get it over the line with his background connections.
