Promotion and Relegation is vital for Football in Australia

Vince Rugari and Matt Windley's idea.

If you're a South Melbourne or APIA or whoever, would you join?
NOPE.

There's not too many people willing to pay $30 million to own an A-League club in Canberra for the privilege of losing a further 2-3 million every year. If there was an option for investors to work with existing clubs, or start a second division franchise if appropriate, there'd be a lot more takers.
For the life of me I fail to see any logic whatsoever in the licence-fee having to be THAT much👎🏼

That’s the main concern. They could win the whole thing this season which could (hopefully) spur interest in a new owner.
thats been a politcal issue down there the last few years.
Hence the desparation of getting a APL license there but planets or politics re Mens or something as such and Capital Football, NCB knows all about this and posted info in another thread.
Doesn't seem there's much chance.

Mate its the very reason behind a PONZI scheme... Theya re up to 700mill in the US now...
Spot on! Essentially, the owners who ponied up early in the MLS now get to 'profit' from the new owners buying into the scheme. They have the population and (more importantly) the spread of population centres for this to be sustainable, assuming billionaires continue to use sporting franchises as badges of honour.

But we don't have that franchise culture here that has become so deeply ingrained over there. Teams need to be financially viable, not necessarily profitable, in that owners are contributing capital at a level they are happy with. It seems that since peak A-League around 2017/18 (and accelerated with COVID), many owners have been trying to cut costs to limit losses. Getting a $30 million injection every now and then is not a sustainable business model.

Yeah.... ummmm thats great I suppose, will it still be around next season when the government stops funding?
I shouldn't laugh, but that's the ACT government for you.

I don't think anyone owns it but Capital Football. And we know there's no money there, so that won't exist much longer unless someone comes in. They can't even pay for clubs to hire a Murray's bus to Wagga or Griffith.

Im sorry I wasn't trying to be mean.... but there are clubs in ACT that DO have money... is more my point.
