Promotion and Relegation is vital for Football in Australia

How was the Australian Championship EVER meant to be a second division without a mechanism to be promoted into a 1st divison.
Football Australia were going to eventually introduce pro-rel but decided to go for the standalone Champions League format instead, and ultimately the aim is to implement promotion and relegation in some form in the future.

To and From the NPL , Never hear it stated that they would be able to from the stand alone Aleague... Not while the APL is in control of it anyway.

Fact is, if Pro/rel ever is to soccer in this country to and from the Championship, it will in effect become the top tier in this country a RIVAL to the Aleague not a compliment to it....

With most of the true blues being rednecks, this country will always struggle, and there is also nothing wrong with averaging 8-10,000. Lots of European and South American countries don't get that much, despite having professional pyramid style leagues for over 100 years.
yep true re rednecks but it funny for they/the anglos are becoming the minority therefore its spread into the migrants - you only have to look at the Dogs for eg eh......
the 8/10 mention here is because due to our bias media belittle it and the general public also look at it as scarce/mildly supported therefore given a negative outlook - we unique as some say.
Next the latinoand small euro countries mention or any other example again is not like what I believe our game deals with - feck all media coverage barring NT games, just like Olympics or mega event the public follow then disperse back to normal stations/its a messy sport can never get its head together, the media ongoing reported "violence"/ the lack of every single thing do those coutnries go through the same ? I doubt it, maybe here or there for eg lack of Gov funding but do they have resistance and negative vibes left right centre ? doubt it again.
This is the Johnny Warren syndrome, every year he would come out with shite like, we need to play like Brazil, we have to get Dutch coaches in, rather than develop your own game and fuck what the rest of the world thinks.
good ol JW, he was a parrot but thats what near on every compare/commentator becomes here due to the ongoing frustration looking over our game.
I don't recall him crapping on about Dutch side but BRaZiL absolutely.
He dreamed of the jogo bonito way/approach.
I agree thats not us ? or could it be IF we opened up the development narrative.
Whats our game ? I actually wished for a grain still there of our "aggressive" 70/80's nature but upping the anti of skillset "HK/Dukes" potion and into modern times - I think the Argie style of play for eg could suit us after we have had the years of development from SAP/Jnrs up........I'm friggin over the Dutch ongoing BS thats been driven for decades - hey I luv VVD/many brilliant players over the years but its not us.

Football360 says pro/rel is possible (source: Instagram)!

I'll link the full post below but basically there's three steps:
  1. Expand the A-League to 18 teams (e.g Canberra, Christchurch, Gold Coast, Tassie)
  2. Split the league into two, with relegation between the A1 and A2 Leagues
  3. Only have pro/rel from the A2 League if the club seeking promotion is 100% able to become pro
Read the full thing here, it's quite interesting and it could work!

Spursy - I commend you getting involved and have passion I think towards the future - I got to say a Franchise system is NOT the future for football.
Yer works pretty good regards to whitegoods/commodities but a grass roots up for the people football game and system ?
Also WHY should any Club have to PAY $20K to be part of a game they already involved with in the first place.
Our governing body should be paying Clubs (kickbacks on merit) and nuturing to GROW every level of the game - not just 1 sideline league that wants its own party.
It just does not make sense - also that model - all the known experts know we need MORE games.
Not A1 A2 with just 9 - we need Div1/be it Championship at 16 minimun for starters.

As a wise man once said, you had your chance and you blew it. Whether any of you like it or not, you fucked it with corruption and politics, amongst other shite.

its the same post NSL in other ways - corrupt/political/$laundering just a different time and its not making the game Great again hahaha get that line where I got it from lol.........
Yep screwed up but I'm firm believer of another wise verse that is to try try again also.
Ship your mob out - get behind THE whole game.

You can't have together if you want to ship mobs out. ;)

Remember the same guy started both the PNSL & the A league. Kerry Packer wanted it but wanted to change the rules. Who else can step up?

I'd say the plan works in theory but I don't agree with them removing the salary cap in the top two divisions because it will inevitably lead to the competition becoming unbalanced and also it means that there's a disconnect between the A-League and Australian Championship when the original plan was to have the Australian Championship be the national second division.
Yeah I disagree with that bit and I don't think it's realistic. Maybe it could be increased a bit but removing it entirely would be stupid.

Why does Flopari ALWAYS go back to the divide and conquer model when things are against the precious APL?? Its so predictable...

There are 1001 "models" people speak about for implementing pro/rel in this country, Splitting Aleague into two 9 club pseudo divisions is NOT one of the better ones...

Heres a better one ... starting from end of this season the Australian Championship will be made up of 8 x foundation clubs and 8 x winners of respective state NPLS (this includes the NPL squads of all Australian Aleague franchises) At the end of the Championship the bottom 2 clubs on the table return to their state NPLS and the other 14 x clubs ARE the 1st division in Australia.. Aleague clubs cease to play two squads and ONLY need to join the pyramid at their respective NPL side level... THEN moving forward we have

  • Top tier - Australian Championship 2 down
  • End of season qualification tournament for Australian Championship - 8 x NPL winners comepting for 2 x promotion spots.
  • Second Divison (regional satte based as is) - State NPLs some states may not change per year, other may have 1 new team added or 1 team promoted.
  • State based pyramid below them as is.

This can happen tomorrow..... ONLY money needed is for travel for end of season torunament for 8 NPL teams, who, if theya re ready to be prmoted will probably be able tot ake care of thsi anyway.....
I had a similar idea in my proposal where teams qualified for the Championship (which becomes an actual league rather than a cupesque tournament) via the state leagues with the relegated teams reorganised into state leagues via geography (with those state leagues having an increased relegation spot in that case to avoid overcrowding the leagues).

Its NOT easy but it really isn't that hard either... just needs the willingness to break a few eggs to make the omelette.. At the moment the eggs are running the show, one day it will be the chickens :)

Luck is generally one in a million, and people with big money don't really like rolling dice, like they did at the start.
well yes Lowy rolled the dice - IF he was as smart as he thought he had the chance to make it great for all but his error was arrogance and being bitter, real shame.
People with BIG money can afford to gamble - here is peanuts - if only one or 2 mining magnets had real football passion and we got a FA who are not afraid to flip the game and throw out those in the way - alas we got what we got and for sometime still.

They did this, circa 2004

Just like painting a room without sanding back the old paint and patching the holes and cracks first.. It may look good fresh but looks like shit the older it gets....
And the answer is not, shut it down and start again. It would become an even bigger laughingstock if that happened. (again)

This forum tells you why Football in this country will never see its maximum potential.

Money laundering? Never heard that about the AL. Care to elaborate?

I reckon the only way forward is to integrate. Throwing the AL out is just repeating past mistakes. It might make the disgruntled fans feel nice and fuzzy inside but you'd be turning many away from the game. Just like post NSL. It'd be stupidity.

We need pro-rel between the AL and below. Let the AL clubs compete and see who's strong enough to survive. See what teams are strong enough to rise. We'll get to see which clubs are just 'franchises' - as gets needled.

It's a shame the APL interests and structures makes that almost impossible. Which is total bullshit.
