The only people he still talks to in football are Tony Raciti and that Andre Kruger German guy.

Good on you always finding these early articles.
2 stand outs there for me re APIA - early 80’s.
Soper young days great forward.
Could have gone further imo I’ve met him a few times after retiring.
Peter Wilson - Big Wil ex Pom.
Capt of the ‘74 Roos !
Sound sweeper role those days solid reader of the game.

Soper was a very good striker. He was originally from Raymond Terrace near Newcastle. The Apia coach was Willie Wallace who was a Scottish international and was in the famous Celtic team who won the European Cup in 1967( the Lisbon Lions). That team coached by Jock Stein had every player born within a 30 mile radius of Glasgow.

The mythical 30 mile radius peddled by the filth. Bobby Lennox was born in Saltcoats, which is 33 miles from Parkhead, as the crow flies. Not being pernicious, but Stein was the Manager, not the coach, a big difference back in them days.

You are correct regarding the nomenclature of manager v coach but lots of the younger people in the football community use the coach term(probably imported from American sports). The other interesting fact about Celtic is that Jock Stein was not a Catholic .The sectarian divide was very strong at the time( and still is) as Alec Ferguson who was a player in those days was not picked in the first team after he married a Catholic lass.

The Fergie part is not true, yes he was questioned about it , but he left in 1969 after the cup final where he never marked McNeill at a corner and he scored. He was married in 1966. Don’t believe too much of Wikipedia.

Actually read it in his book, not on Wikipedia

I seen an interview with him were he debunked this. Not saying what you are saying is wrong. But he was married before he signed for Rangers, and they knew about it, but because he was married in a registry office, it was let go. The guy who annoyed him about it was Willie Allison, the PR officer.
