NPL 2026

Thanks mate! What really helped was the amazing work that people like the Green and Gold FC guys did to interview the players and coaches... it helped me learn a lot about what makes the clubs tick, their styles, which players to watch out for. It distilled each NPL into digestible bites for me - I'd never have had the time to form that understanding and interest without the Championship.

Roll on this weekend 🍻
rippa post Stu well said.
GGFC is a great space thanks to Pascuali taking the initiative to launch.
Graz does a great job in his own time researching for the pods - without these types of people with a passion for the game we get no where, no diff to all those local Club volenteers that are there rain hail shine the backbone of the game.
I look forward to end of season Championship but first we enjoy our traditional winter season coming up - exciting times.

Terry Antonis has apparently signed for St George Fc for the upcoming season
Now imagine if some of this money was instead put into serious coaches around the world to coach players here.

Enough money to pay rubbish recycled players not talking Antonis specifically but not enough money to pay a top 10 European league manager to even coach in the NPL NSW because of being an unknown name in Australia. Go figure.

One Ukrainian and another Russian manager denied opportunity here, both gone to other AFC leagues (both top flight).

What’s the situation with his heart condition these days? I’m assuming he can play, but must be uninsured or signed a waiver?

Edit: I've been corrected - this was Chris Naumoff not Antonis. Thanks to @AUFC_Fan

You can ask this to anyone.

What's the vibe around teams these days in regards to playing in the NPL as opposed to playing in the Championship? Do you think the NPL is now less important?

For teams like Sutherland this year and with their aspirations, the NPL is very important, if they want to win it and partake in the Championship.

I've looked at the sydney demographics and my mind cant be changed. Olympic should be huge. Comparing them to Preston and Melbournes outer North. Sydney Greek in Earlwood, Belmore and Marrickville absolutely dwarfs it. We (South) have borderline nothing compared to them as well.
I take your specific point re Olympic having the potential to be a Greek Preston.

I’ve been taking a bit of a break from posting as of late, so this isn’t a response to you specifically but more just generally on this topic. My 2c, for all the talk about Olympic being fucked etc, I still think under regular circumstances, all things being even etc Olympic are no worse than Alexander in terms of support, very similar. They’re not South Melbourne Hellas, and no doubt they’re at a low point atm which all clubs have at some point, but if they’d been having the on field success Alexander has had of late and had built that level of momentum I’d say they’d probably be getting similar sorts of numbers. It’s never easy attracting less dedicated fans to games when there’s a ”toxic” vibe around the club, entirely different prospect when the opposite is true. Again, they’re no Hellas, but they’re no worse than Alexander ..imo. From someone who has physically attended games at both clubs during their best worst periods in the post nsl era

Also on this, goes to my point re traditional Sydney and Melbourne clubs being stronger together than diluted across state leagues. Being in regular competitive contact with Hellas and Alexander could be good for Olympic and provide them with a yardstick with which to compare themselves. Heathy competition/rivalry driving standards

Was he playing in the a league with this heart condition?
He was, as it was unknown. A medical before a transfer to a European club picked up the issue and the transfer didn't proceed. He was understandably devastated. I believe he retired from professional football, given the risk to his health. But I haven't followed things closely enough, so I was surprised to see his name mentioned, even though he's probably being playing regularly.

This worries me a little having read many posts about the championship v NPL - surely the NPL has to be the most important in order to gain entry into the championship the NPL is the bread and butter at the moment and gives all teams aspirations to play themselves into the Championship its the basis on how the league should be structured. I understand that the 8 teams that bought their way in would maybe differ in their views but to me we have to get away from this 'franchise' system (A League mentality) the structure must be P/R from NPL to Championship otherwise we are going to cut off the whole basis of aspirational motivation of the NPL structure. The Championship should be the pinnacle without doubt but only if the NPL serves as a feeder into it or we will start to kill off the whole point of it to me
The championship was great however we ended up with a final comprising of the 9th best team in VIC vs the 3rd best team in NSW and I understand why completely but surely we all want a Championship with the best vs the best on merit or am I on the wrong bus here?
