2026 Hahn Australia Cup

Just a casual 700km, 8 hour drive there 😂

Ouch.

Just on Mount Gambier/Limestone Coast. Their basketball team agreed to pay ALL of the other clubs expenses for their matches!

Adelaide clubs will not be required pay for travel, accommodation and meal expenses when their men’s and women’s teams make the 870km round trip to the southeast.

Instead, Basketball Australia and the Pioneers will give each of the 10 other clubs $4000 to cover the costs.

This is in NBL1. And we can't get a home and away Championship going?

Can't even get Yoogali into a senior men's competition... :(

Also if people are interested in Whyalla Lions, (to my knowledge) the Whyalla Soccer Association is the only league in the country where each club has a permanent self-operated home ground with social club. Would be the dream nationally but not a chance of it happening

Yeah they are short of grounds there. Some clubs are literally on the same road a kilometre apart!

More than double the people in a football team vs a basketball team

Correct. But this is NBL1, it's split into five regions, basically like NPL level. And yet they still accept massive travel in each region, like Mount Gambier and Hobart in the Vic league, Cairns and Townsville (and previously Darwin) in the QLD league, and so on.

Griffith would come kind of close - depending how loose we are with the 'self-operated' definition

Do you happen to have a Northern/Southern split in numbers? Looking at the list of teams it instinctively feels like a bit of growth actually in the South, but a lot of Northern teams (I want to say mainly from Far North Coast) seem not to have entered again this year

I’ll try take a look when I chuck this in the database - will only be able to go back to 2024 though

Ok, doing my normal thing I've been doing for all the states so far - noting that Northern NSW is unique in that they allow feeder clubs to enter (Junior), alongside the main club (Senior). For the purposes of the Australian Football Club Database, these clubs are only counted once, so this is where the couple NPL clubs (Lambton Jaffas and Maitland FC) are listed as already entered on my end, despite still being a couple rounds off from entering. Assuming all remaining NPL and Northern League One clubs enter into the following rounds, this brings the total to 65 individual clubs (again, only counting through my database, where each Junior / Senior entered club is only counted once).

Rather than just listing "Regional" - here is the full breakdown by the 7 NNSW Districts:
  • NEWCASTLE
    • Korara South
    • Lambton Jaffas
    • Mayfield United

Clubs entering in 2026 for the first time ever (or first time since 2023):
  • Rutherford Dragons - 2025 NNSW Zone League 3
  • Lake Cathie - 2025 Mid North Coast Premier League
  • Tamworth - 2025 Northern Inland Premier League
  • Casino RSM Cobras - 2025 Far North Coast Championship

Clubs entering in 2026 after a hiatus in 2025:
  • Southern United - 2025 NNSW Zone League 2
  • Bellbird - 2025 NNSW Zone League 3
List of clubs that entered in 2025, but not in 2026 - PLEASE NOTE: This may change/be inaccurate, as I cannot find a complete fixture/competition list for NNSW below League One at the moment, and have only got listed the clubs that were relegated from these leagues as per @HappyGuus OzTables webpage. However, Zone League 1, 2 and 3 clubs should have been entered into this round as per the NNSW web article announcing the fixtures, so I will be omitting clubs that are confirmed in NPL or League One and haven't entered a club yet.
  • Merewether Advance - 2025 NNSW Zone League 2
  • Medowie - 2025 NNSW Zone League 3
  • Goonellabah - 2025 Far North Coast Premier League

  • Byron Bay - 2025 Far North Coast Premier League
  • Port Macquarie United - 2025 Mid North Coast Premier League
  • Majos - 2025 North Coast 2nd Division

@oranges So doing that north/south split along the lines of Interdistrict being Southern, and the rest being Northern (as that's how the draw looks to me), for 2024, 2025 and 2026 (assuming all NPL and League One clubs enter), I have the following numbers (again, this combines the Junior and Senior entries into a single entry)

Southern
2026 - 48
2025 - 49
2024 - 45

Northern
2026 - 17
2025 - 21
2024 - 23
