Fact is YOU claimed modern Australian society has totally disrespected the original inhabitants of this country after the English arrived and defeated them in conquest and slaughter. Germany continues to do education and remembrance around World War 2 and the Nazis in an effort never repeat the past. Holocaust education is mandatory. Holocaust denial is criminalised.

That's a country that has gone, "we did this, it was bad, we should never do it again. We will honour and respect that past". They continue -to this day- to make reparations and recognition.

I'm 'English', carry a British passport and have to admit in similarity to you that I'm not particularly patriotic in the 'English identity' sense.

Being half Irish (mother) and quarter Scottish/quarter English(dad) is probably why.

I also carry an Irish EU passport and am married to an Australian. It's a right old mix and I think half the world right now would have similar mixed heritage or citizenship from multiple countries, and quite often overlapping with mixed-race or multi-ethnic backgrounds.....

Add in a partner with a difference in heritage and the pursuit of national identity seems lame!

Yeah it's amazing the lack of respect. I was in Sardinia looking at these 3000 year old ruins of a peoples that no longer exist and it was a UNESCO site and they made a huge deal about it and how proud they were of it.

Meanwhile we have petroglyphs in the Kimberly that are are 40 000 years old or more and no one gives a fuck. The cave paintings in Lascaux France are only 12 000 years old.

The pyramids are 5000 years old and are world renowned. In Brewarrina there are fish traps that are 40 thousands years old. Who cares amirite?

That's not to say these other sites aren't impressive or important but it's the complete lack of any sort of recognition about this stuff in Australia by Australians that's weird.

I have a theory that people don't want to admire them because to do so would put them on an equal footing to us fellas and that would mean they didn't deserve their mistreatment. (Mistreatment putting it mildly.)

Well homelessness has risen in Australia. Living standards can be amazing for ALL if people are struggling to pay bills, or having to make choices between food and medicine. If people can't afford rent or basic groceries, then living standards can't be great.

So something needs to be done about it, and both Labor and LNP don't give a shit about it. But as we've seen in America, the right really don't. They keep enriching themselves. Tax billionaires and make the rich pay their fair share.
