CCM under APL control

I would argue that they are definitely not a minority given those kinds of people have been at those clubs for generations and the clubs themselves have done little to nothing to remove those elements.
I'm sure most are on the more conservative side of the political spectrum but actual racist dickheads are probably a minority. But yeah the people in charge are probably in that minority.

Neither really. I doubt an A-League club would be turned into any sort of ethnic club unless we get pro/rel. It would defeat the purpose of having the A-League which was created to stop the NSL era racism and violence that plagued the game and gave it a "wogball" image.

And the A-league has stopped all the racism, violence, stabbings etc has it? Lol

The only difference now is you can't call it ethnic.

If you’re at an A-League game and you say something racist, there’s a good chance you’ll get told to fuck off and leave and possibly get bashed as well.

Again with the violence...

Somethings never change.

I think we can distinguish between provoked violence (e.g John punched Dave because he said something racist) and unprovoked violence (e.g John's team lost so he punched Dave).

As for the prejudice part, I think his concern's were more about the ethnic violence and stuff rather than the specific nationality (in this case Greek). I personally think the ethnic clubs have some awesome culture and the food stalls cook up some great food, overall the ethnic theme is quite cool, but I don't like the racism or ethnic tensions that come along with it.

On Reddit the opinion seems to be that Championship/NPL clubs (especially the big Croatian clubs like Melbourne Knights and Sydney United due to their Ustaše supporter groups) have a bunch of racist right-wing Ethnic fans who ruin the image of Aussie soccer. In reality it's a minority of fans that cause fights or are racist, but that's still a big problem (especially since they're loud and have big groups on Facebook, the boomers' favourite site).
you people (a good %) really read the script put out there And follow the rest of your fellow brain washed sheep on forums about ethnics and worse mentioning boomers.
Seriously sad got to say.
Most if not all of the trouble makers in football crowds are young/er gens for starters, NPL and AL.
We've seen enough evidence over the AL years, MV SFC and worst WSW please turn it up.
They have behaved just as wrongly in the modern times after all the education about crowd behaviour that has been put out the last 15yrs re sport participation and behaviour.
WSW when we used to go to parra stadium was frigging ugly, you watched your back just going back to your car.
The SFC/MV behaviour back to central station - whats the diff, thuggery is thuggery (yes stabbings also).
The walkover bridge at Moore park another one came to mind.
So nothing to do about racism above just sheer out and out blatant thuggery - dumb is dumber.
Bucket boy etcetc - tell us where your crowds have gone and how the APL is looked upon by the general aussie today after the countless incidents occurred by the save the world of football franchise system and clubs struggling to stay afloat running on 500K budgets to date.
Is it proven so many boomers live in FB ? oh hang lets just bring up specific ethnic croation ones, talk about racism.
What about your own gen groups, you people live by your mobiles on how many different mediums, can imagine how hot it was in SM on the countless violent outbreaks mentioned above.

By the way it still would be considered "wogball" to many many aussies out there because it bloody well IS and proud of it :)

I wouldn't bring your reddit outlook here for its blantantly obvious the closed mindedness with the many expert numb nuts in there are also holding back the game with their attitude about the larger section of the game below for guess what ? the game here can't survive on 12 friggin APL clubs living on peanuts let alone lack of teams playing at every level of the eco system..
Deadset I shake my head whats going on in this country and not surprised we're up a creek without a paddle.

Again the Adelaide fans still living in their bubble of delusion about the rest of the league.

And what does that have to do with racism which is my point?

I'd rather be racially villified than go through that attack again.

Lets be honest the past 20 years everything has been swept under "oh well at least it wasnt ethnic" every time you lot have your violent outbursts, as if it makes it ok or something.

From Wikipedia about the Australian Open, 2007 (can't find links to newspaper reporting):

Factional fighting on day 1

On 15 January 2007, around one hundred and fifty Australian youths of Serbian, Croatian and Greek origins were ejected from the Open after brawling with one another in Garden Square at Melbourne Park. The brawl reportedly developed after fans taunted each other with nationalist slogans. According to The Age newspaper, twenty police tried to quell the disturbance, which allegedly developed after an informal understanding between some Serb and Croat fans — that the two groups would not attend on the same day — was broken. The two opposing groups were ejected out separate exits and escorted away from the venue in opposite directions by police. No arrests were made, and no charges were laid against any of the participants.

The Greek supporters protested that they had not been involved in the taunts exchanged between the Serb and Croat contingents, though The Age reported that some Greek supporters had sided with some Serbs and chanted, "Greece, Serbia! Greece, Serbia!" and "We must support our Orthodox brothers". Serb fans claimed that the violence had been provoked by Croat use of the Croatian national flag, which in their eyes carried connotations of Second World War fascism, while Croats claimed that the violence was provoked by Serbs shouting anti-Croat, pro-Serb chants.

A Croatian supporter suffered minor injuries in the ethnic brawl after being hit with a Serbian flagpole. People wearing Croatian or Serbian national colours were subsequently refused entry and the next day featured heightened security. Police in Victoria said that this sort of behaviour was never seen in the tournament before.

This was also happening at the NSL games.

Thats the only leg they have to stand on, the ethnic card.

So hurtful words are worse than bleech attacks, stabbings and violence got it.

They really are a thick lot in Adelaide aren't they.

I love how you picked some isolated incidents and tried to portray them as normal.

These are very rare violent incidents and as we all know, there are also violent incidents in the NPL and also back in the NSL.

PS: you don’t get to call people thick when you can’t even spell “bleach” correctly lmao

Water it down all you like.

Fact of the matter is, violence has gotten worse since the inception of the A-League.

I've supported my club through the NSL and NPL era's. We had our problems with Bonnyrigg in 2005 and Rockdale 2019, but we've had alot more problems with Sydney FC & WSW and that is Fact.

Not rare at all, rare perhaps inside the stadiums but everyone knows what goes on outside. The charade ended when Victory took it inside aami park that night. The catalogue of incidents is extensive and your club isnt innocent either.

There hasn’t been an incident of violence involving Adelaide fans in many years.

And given the media loves bashing football as we all know, why don’t these supposed incidents ever get reported on?

What goes on outside the stadium footprint is not an A league problem, but a society problem. You know fine that plastic wannabees attach themselves to football clubs, without having any interest in football at all.

I'd personally view the racism as going the other way, towards the "ethnic clubs" a lot more than from the ethnic clubs.
Have you read Joe Gorman's book "the death and life of Australian soccer" and Paul Mavroudis' companion blog

It is a pretty interesting read.

In any case, I put the narrative that nsl crowds were a basket case of ethnic violence in the same category as the demonization a league fans get today.

A study looked at violence at nsl clubs and concluded it was below the norm overseas, another study (conducted in the a league era) concluded that violence at football was not worse than other codes. In both case media and society shaped perceptions and created a narrative that unfairly exaggerated reality to claim we are worse than other sports. It is much harder to fight unfair narratives against our code if we are divided and throwing "ethnic clubs" under the bus
