Boutique stadiums Australia

For the record, the reserve bank has been researching the productivity of the construction industry in Australia and wages are a a small fraction of the issue. In Australia, along with Canada & NZ, cost and length of construction period are out of line with the UK, the USA and other major economies. Contrast that with Tokyo, where it took two years to build a new bullet train extension that was able to withstand the 2011 earthquake and three years to build a new underground line. Japan is also a high wage country with a strong building union.
In Australia we only have two Tier 1 construction companies (actually 1.5 because one of them is now a little more than a shell) that are able to deliver major construction projects with smaller construction projects being done by Tier 2 companies and whose price is set by the Tier 1s.
The Victorian Labor government back in the mid 2000s awarded a major construction project to a Tier 2 company with the expectation that it would be able to deliver and thus create a third Tier 1 company. Unfortunately, the company failed to deliver and went bust.
From my personal experience, the whole industry is screwed because the mentality is set when apprentices and graduates join the industry. They learn from their superiors and nothing changes. Unimaginative, aggressive & uncollaborative, fail to adopt technologies and processes, you name it.
As far as John Setka is concerned, you don't get dandies in the construction industry and is one of the very few industries that is able to hire men that have little more than primary school education.
As far as Norm Gallagher is concerned he was sent to jail for doing the same thing that the Liberal communications minister Richard Alston and PM John Howard did.
As far as the CFMEU is concerned, I note that Tony Abbot held a royal commission into the trade union which resulted in very few charges being laid and no convictions. Then he setup the ABCC which paid is head honcho $500k/year for 10 years and he didn't get many, if any, convictions either. But as my bullshit antenna has picked up, in the ministry of defense there was a rape (no legislative changes to how parliament operates) and there are photos of a whit substance in a neat line on a table and presumably former defense personnel nearby - no changes there either and not even a perfunctory statement saying that all staff have been vetted. A classic case of look over there.

Outing yourself as a communist is not a good thing.

Gallagher was as sick in the head as that batshit crazy Yank James Dresnok who defected to North Korea.
How would you know , you were barely born when he was strutting his stuff for the working-class people of Australia.

Most of your benefits you enjoy today were won by trade unions.

Or would you prefer the dark grim days of the days before the industrial revolution.

Australia’s massive minimum wages (compared to most other countries), we basically owe to unions. Business owners don’t enjoy that, but the workers do, and most owners were once workers before they were bosses……….

Which one?

The First one was in 1760 when all of our ancestors were still in the UK & Ireland and Cook was still a decade away from discovering the country.

You can add workers compensation rights, superannuation and long service leave to that list. Australian's have had these conditions in situ for decades and it's all due to the strength of the union movement....

A lot of other societies including many in the West are still either just implementing them or in some cases still thinking about implementing them.

For the record, Cook did not discover Australia. Not only had the Dutch seafearer Abel Tasman been here long before that in WA and Tasmania, but the Portuguese captain Torres and afterwards the Englishman Dampier were here. Cook was sent to claim Australia on behalf of teh British crown because teh French were also here (have a look at the names on the map of WA along the coast asd well as Tasmania) but to find a place to establish a colony.

The Dutch were a trading empire not a territorial one. Off the top of my head I don't recall any Dutch territorial claim. However, they did settle all over the world founding New Amsterdam, Pretoria, Tasmania & NZ. Also the Dutch were part of the Spanish empire for a while and then of course took over the British Crown (before the Germans did). Also, the Dutch were the only trading nation allowed into Imperial Japan.
The Portuguese were a bit of both, however they settled along their trading routes, hence Africa. Brazil was a different issue because the Brits provided a lot of support to the Portuguese against the Spanish crown, hence Brazil.

Oops, forgot about Indonesia. Suriname, French Guyana and British Guyana have an interesting history like many of those Caribbean island - they were originally settled by Pirates and renegades. Would love to do a tour of those islands. BTW it is little known that Colombia has two official languages with English being the second one due to said pirate settlements.

They aren’t islands, they are part of the South American continental land mass……….

The Collectivity of Saint-Martin in the Caribbean is divided into two halves. One French and the other Dutch. The Dutch half, the Southern part of the Island is known as Sint-Maarten.

It's two separate states and officially they refer to it as the Collectivity of Saint-Martin.

17 million gets you fuck all these days. Probably just that landscaping you see out the front which is literally next to the ocean and some other touches. Wouldn't read too much into it.

I see Wolves don’t have a fixture scheduled there this year. I know they played some games at WIN for NPL last season though?
