Sign Up Now!Agree, an as I posted to Mon above.... most in the Football world agree with you...having said that if you ignore their success and how they are growing as well as USL competition I think now with over 120 professional teams and P & R over three or four divisions...Still can't see that side of the planet gain respect from the football world no matter how much they do.
They should play for the World Series every year, that will teach teh rest of us.. and Trump can invade England if the EPL is getting too uppity. USA USA USAAgree, an as I posted to Mon above.... most in the Football world agree with you...having said that if you ignore their success and how they are growing as well as USL competition I think now with over 120 professional teams and P & R over three or four divisions...
Hate it all you want.... but its expanding and expanding fast...
don't ignore nor hate it just do not rate it as a football entity - its just another commodity and it looks and feels as such.Agree, an as I posted to Mon above.... most in the Football world agree with you...having said that if you ignore their success and how they are growing as well as USL competition I think now with over 120 professional teams and P & R over three or four divisions...

The dislike by many (myself included Mid) is that, just like everything the Yanks touch, they have made it about the financial rewards at the top rather than participation and connections at the bottom. Ultra consumerism is creeping into Australia (and the rest of the world) at a rapid pace and the driver is our society in infected by all things US in popular culture. At the moment Football is popular, jerseys, Messi v Ronaldo, even a bit of buzz about the WC coming...when the next "cabbage patch kids" or "pokemon" comes along those consumers will pivot to something else.... they only things that LAST are hotdogs, baseball, apple pie and guns, lots of guns.LOL a lot of people would like to think what this guy is saying will happen.... actually heaps and heaps of people want this to happen....
The difference between today and Pele's time is not understood many think the US was similar to Australia at the time, nothing could be further from the truth.... in Pele's time Football was at best a niche sport in the US, today its the third most popular sport in the US.... now ranked ahead of Baseball....
So so so so so many things to dislike about the MLS, but that its about to fold, the retirement league, the ponzi scheme league, the hope that it will implode is mega huge, its dislike by many nay most in the Football world is clear....
Its growing and was growing without Messi, ..... Messi like Beckman added another layer .... the MLS will continue to grow... people don't have to like it, people can put crap on it, people can say whatever they want.... The MLS will keep expanding does not mean you want it to happen or agree with how they do things.... but that its about go under is beyond logic if their position and set up is taken into account.
An American client told me the US was gonna win the "US Soccer World Cup Bowl" - his words because Messi plays for the US team now.....don't ignore nor hate it just do not rate it as a football entity - its just another commodity and it looks and feels as such.
Growth no doubt keeps occurring their way - good luck to them - the only thing I'm jealous of is having a small % of their resource thats about it.
Most merican commodities expand fast for decades..
Yeah 100% its sad for our country and our kids....well thats some mericans typically Mono.
We have been following the merican consumerism path for decades not just recently.
Could not agree more mate...The dislike by many (myself included Mid) is that, just like everything the Yanks touch, they have made it about the financial rewards at the top rather than participation and connections at the bottom. Mate you and I have had this argument dozens of times.... but it all boils down to one thing,Mon & LFC
Please understand this...I am not supporting or recommending the MLS or how Football works in the US...
What I am saying, believing its going to fall over and go away is beyond foolish its expanding and expanding rapidly ...
Further, I am simply saying what they are doing, many Football folk in the US don't like the MLS that is also clear...
Having said all this, like it or not... its growing and its incredibly well planned and Messi was part of that plan...
There is an old business truism that goes something like this... start a new product or service or entertainment and it will grow very slowly, [BTW what i am about to post IMO very much applies to Football in Australia].... some examples colour TV, mobile phones, internet TV streaming..... the initial take up is slow and early adopters hang in there...BUT Behavioural Science studies indicate once a product, service, entertainment reaches a certain level it explodes in growth....US Football is now entering that key base support ....
My predication is within and well within 10 years the MLS will be in the top ten leagues in the world... does that mean i like it, support it, or want it to happen... No.... but thinking its going to fall over or hoping it falls over does not change where its going...
Mid, understand your #52 post - I know your just reporting whats going on.
Ofcourse its not goiung to curl up and die think we all know that - like I've said the resource is bountiful and it will never stop - it will always go through highs/sugar hits and lows - they can afford those peaks and valleys.
Plus the game will keep gaining traction due to the hispanic and other migrations - I agree.
Will it rate one day ? long time yet long time, I HOPE it never gets into top10 league, they have a woeful arrogance - I'll be dead long before if it and when it does anyway
The yanks excell competing in basketball globally, snow disciplines/tennis 2wheel motorsports (motocross for eg) not enough globally in 4 wheel sectors, the premium one ie F1, now owned by a USA consortium are doing similar to MLS investing BIG $'s to grow it there, have approved another merican team to commense this season after much politicking for its all about the $ obviously.

Mate you and I have had this argument dozens of times.... but it all boils down to one thing,
WHAT DO YOU DEFINE AS SUCCESS?
In 10 years time an MLS license will be worth 7 Billion Dollars (considered Orlando just sold for 700 million or something gross).. but what does that mean exactly? Do you think more peole are going to be watching becaus eit is shinier and can afford better retirees? Look at the SA league if thats the case, the stands are empty.. AND once the Messi hype dies the same will happen to MLS unless another wizzbang marque gets signed... Football in the us, just liek ALL their sports is entertainment, like going to the movies, or the ballet or the strippers..... its a passtime they can go to that feels familar, they can eat and consume advertising.....
It may, slowly become more popular whithin the US but the rest of the world will never really give a shit about it...
Yeah plenty of anti US feeling around the world these days (myself included) but thats not gonna be forever... What Im trying to tell you is that US hasn't got, and probably doesn't want, that intangible spark of football that keeps the rest of the world awake at night.. American culture is transactional, as are their sporting clubs, they shift with the fortunes of mysterious owners who treat their fans as customers AND nothing more and the people there don't mind because they actually believe in that aspiration bullshit.. People with money in the US ARE better than those without in every which way and they ALL live with that fact and just accept it...Hard to answer.... except to say those wishing away US involvement in Football and the affect there involvement will have across the world are mistaken.... players follow money and so do top coaches.... its only a matter of time before MLS teams will have budgets bigger than most countries .... the current average team spend in the MLS is around 20 million with 39 million being the top.
How do I judge success.... interesting question .... participation rates, crowds, TV ratings, Streaming subscribers, Cable subscribers, international success, media space i.e inches in papers, minutes on broadcast media, all of these and some more I guess.
Do I think Football in the US is ever going to anywhere there number one code... no.... actually and hoping not to set off a posting fury in a few years the US maybe a shadow of itself Trump has got the entire world being anti USA and he could bring the place down ... so maybe the Yankee dollar in a few years will be far less important than it is today...
Again we are not wishing it away, it is what it is - may I say their involvement ahead isn’t going to be a great influence of the game but make it worse - talking consumerism how wrong football is going in its own right I dread the yanks having a seat at the table even more with fifa.Hard to answer.... except to say those wishing away US involvement in Football and the affect there involvement will have across the world are mistaken.... players follow money and so do top coaches.... its only a matter of time before MLS teams will have budgets bigger than most countries .... the current average team spend in the MLS is around 20 million with 39 million being the top.
Above is franchise metrics - a cancer to the game. How do I judge success.... interesting question .... participation rates, crowds, TV ratings, Streaming subscribers, Cable subscribers, international success, media space i.e inches in papers, minutes on broadcast media, all of these and some more I guess.
Don’t think everyone is against or anti USA but they sure are a frigging mess that has been down that path for many many years.Do I think Football in the US is ever going to anywhere there number one code... no.... actually and hoping not to set off a posting fury in a few years the US maybe a shadow of itself Trump has got the entire world being anti USA and he could bring the place down ... so maybe the Yankee dollar in a few years will be far less important than it is today...
