Tedious first half. Both teams more attacking in second half but few chances created. Can't complain to much about the awarding of penalty to Iraq but the one we were awarded was very soft and VAR did its job.Iraqi time wasting added to injury time and karma bit them on the bum. What's more we scored two goals from open play.
South Korea might be too good for us but at least we are there.
It was a bit tedious to watch.

Went to bed at the 59 min mark. Got up and watched 4 min highlights, then watched last 31 mins of regular time.

2 late goals were good. Impressed by Blair, Jovanovic looking for the player in the better position, culminating in the McAllister winning goal.

It seems like Iraq had probs with clubs releasing players too.

I think it is good that so many players in the Aus team weren’t first choice players, but qualified for the last 8.

I’m a bit disappointed that no players I saw have made rapid recent improvement. Say like Esposito seems to have.

I thought Simon Hill just said Aus plays Uzbek, not South K, as Aus finishes top of the group in the quarter final?
He said that live but then saw China Thailand had ended goalless. That was either at the time it was 1:1 or after the second goal that an Iraq equaliser would've nudged them back on the table.

Iraq wasted so much time with their faking injuries. To think every single clash was met with staying on the ground. We're just powerless and even more so when the ref is of the same ilk. Give me west Asia and most of East Asia anyday and a Japanese or Korean ref.

AFC want their refs always getting more tournament games but it would be cool to have some European refs over. Balkan refs would just laugh at the ME antics.

I didn't watch the second half did taking valadon off change much?
I’m a huge Valadon fan.

I think he was tired. Agosti was more energetic, being fresher, but if on the ball Jordi V is the most composed player in that team. His ballwinning has improved too.

Given what I’ve seen prior was hoping Alagich, Valadon, Jovanovic, and Drew (coming back from injury in Europe, the norm for Aussies) would be more dominant and lift the rest of the team.

Pearman played up an age. Didn’t look as good relatively.

Paull probably played to expectations.

A former player I coached was just on the blower and was appalled at the other Aus CB’s poor marking.

Thought Bovalina’s 1v1 ball winning and composure on the ball would be better. Neither he or Simmons seemed comfortable at left back instead of right.

Great Dukuly headed goal and Rawlins cross.

Liked Rawlins rugged ball winning!

Compared to when I last saw them with a greater array of players, we missed Bozinovski joining Vala in mid, probably playing Alagich as number 10.

It seemed Vidmar often opted for 2 strikers in a 442 formation.

Can’t see the fanfare about Overy. Is it simply Aus Euro- adulation? In the second game against China, O was involved in some superb attacking interplay with Drew and Vala on the right flank, but doesn’t live up to the hype of being selected in a senior Socceroo squad.

Overy was solid but not outstanding.Majekodunmi did look a bit lost at times but he is very raw.Paull is strong and has much more experience but is slow to turn.Pearman did not show much and I thought Alagich turned the ball over a lot in this game.Likewise Valadon had a quiet game and his passing was poor.
Dukuly puts himself about and was perfectly positioned for the cross and headed it home well.Jovanic did not get much service and found it hard against a well organised defence.Drew,Macallister and Blair did add spark to our attack.Blair was very quiet in the China but ran onto Dukuly's pass and did not panic when the defenders came to him and unselfishly laid it off to Jovanic who presented Macallister with a tap in.Good combination play by the forwards

To be fair to Overy he is being played out of position in a pretty dysfunctional team.

You probably understand tactics better then me. But 442 you want two midfielders who are creating can't be all on algaich.

Val is more of a six id play him behind two other midfielders.

So what seed would we have now (minimum and best) and what benefits for a high seed?
