The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Respectfully disagree entirely. It just won't work in Adelaide and will only do more harm than good. The town really is as "united" as you can get. It might work elsewhere, like WSW vs SFC, but it would kill the uniform attention the Reds get.

It might work in Brisbane or Perth, I don't know their culture, but Adelaide just won't support another team enough to survive, and it would bring the Reds and the game down with it in its fragile state.
You telling me a derby with ad city, that comes about after pro rel and after they are back in NST, that again pits old sokkah and AL wont have interest or work? As far as i can see it was always the best avenue for growth..

Crowds were good when they were up the top of npl, again similar to a rockdale or something now. Maybe like a strong year for dandy thunder or something in Melb..unfortunately they just got relegated to npl 3, been a disaster ~5 years for the club
Hadnt realised they had such runs!! Heard of them obviously but had no idea of that... cheers for the info!

May work, the only potential problem is that Adelaide is a pissant town where everyone just gets behind the south aussies. Before that was Adelaide city, now it’s Adelaide united ;)

Yeah it wouldn’t work. Everyone supports United here and there’s just no appetite for a second A-League team.

However, SA absolutely needs a championship side if/when they go to a proper home and away format.

I agree with the concept for everywhere else. But the fan numbers just aren't there in SA. City used to be big, might still be the biggest at state level but it's not a high bar like Victoria. But I'm all for an SA team in the NST with pro/rel and whatever happens happens. But forcing a City vs United derby in the A-League won't work, it would actually harm what they already have.

The Glory would absolutely need to get their sh1t together in every aspect before a 2nd WA team is considered - even so, the already-existing clubs from there would add virtually nothing to the A-League, IMHO. The only way it might work is if the Dockers* were to field their own ⚽ side, ala Collingwood & Carlton in the NSL...

*or the Eagles, though they'd have to revamp themselves as a pan-State team rather than merely a Perth one

Well thats the argument... yes it doesnt work in the current AL no one logical can argue otherwise but an SA with only one side across 2 tiers (eventually) isnt viable either.. representstion needs to be everywhere, thats the benefit NST provides, from it it can either lead to a derby or it wont eventuate and no one folds or dies suddenly aka WU. Risk is minimal.

I reckon you’re right. A single team in the A League and another in the Australian Championship would work best. It allows the whole city to get behind both clubs given they would be in different competitions.

agree right now both teams could not survive , we do not have the core support for both teams to go week in week out , they would have to share the same ground as if they were to use Optus it would be a lunatic move as they would go broke.

I cant see us getting a Second team at all to be honest unless the league goes into a full promotion and relegation with a Division 2.

Would've been nice to crack a 2,000 average, but you never know which teams will end up qualifying with this format.

Not sure about these numbers for the QFs. I already had the APIA match written down as 4,611.

lol i thought APIA was getting 4000 every game?

even that 600 is far greater than what they average during the regular season.

Yeah it doesn't make sense. Unless there was a storm or something that night? I can't remember.

Those muppets managed to get passed their quintessential fudging of the figures for the AL to advise us (happily more then likely) regarding championship crowd numbers contradictory to even the FA figures?? Keep up the great work there lads but may i suggest manual head counts at the AL matches with the crowds as they are currently shouldnt take more than a few minutes at most of those games! Atleast try earn your sponsorships! 😝

Would be even higher with just the foundation 8, although it wasn't a league format.
it was deflating losing the league format, but credit to crowds for persisting at those clubs that remained commited, current system has little merrit though beyond couple years bc it stales quickly (even if it was exciting it fails to entice growth and includes too many smaller sides), hard to gage true interest when its not cream of the crop aligned with p&r etc.

Id like to see head to head the figures announced & those recorded bc ghe discrepency seen is a lol suspect imo.. take SMFC as example that under 2k quarter is absolute bs and anyone there can confirm it.

apparently fa take ticket sales plus 15% as a flat formula for all crowds
