The Western United Thread

Western Sydney Wanderers:

FFA announced expansion in April 2012.
WSW formally announced June 2012.
WSW first A-League match October 2012.

Not six months from creation, but actually six months from the expansion announcement!

WSW finished top in their 1st season, and in their second season finished 2nd and won the Asian Champions League. Six months isn't even an excuse here.

Western United are already a club with things in place. Six months is plenty of time for them.

Yeah, that will never be repeated.

All the stars aligned there. Stadium, demographic, Resources, personnel. WUFC have none of that.

I would assume that any key stakeholder in the original setup of WUFC will be barred from being involved moving forward. That should be point number 1 on any conditions of their return.

Its the old football people in Melbourne that got them in this mess in the first place.

They should look at AFL and NBL administrators and try and poach them across to relaunch the club.

Johnson Controls has provided funds for Western United’s parent entity to pay $15.5 million in ATO debts.

I'm wondering who they know and who knows them that a completely football unrelated entity ( https://www.johnsoncontrols.com.au/ ) gives a flying fuck to pay these deadbeats debts off.

So you think their inaugural coach, who selected their first ever squad and then got passed over for 5 seasons in a row and left to get a position as senior manager to make an FA cup final in his second season would consider coming back there?
If he wants to coach in the A-League, yes

There is absolutely no noise about potential additions to the competition apart from possible reinstatement of WU, which I personally doubt.

My take on this: any potential investors will be waiting to see the outcome of next tv rights agreement before committing.

We can never know what is happening behind the scenes. Who knows, APL may actually do something other than sit on their collective hands for once.

I also hope to see a rhino fly past my window on pink wings.

WU will be reinstated and JA will likely be the coach. They will be a drag on the comp though with the 1500-2000 crowds as the charade of past promises has been exposed and the brand is damaged beyond repair.

They need to cut off the life support and move on from that failed franchise.

I think you can bring it back, but surely needs some kind of rebrand. They will make Macarthur look well supported thats how damaged it is.

The stadium stands as a silent cathedral of concrete, draped in a darkness that feels sentient, waiting for a heartbeat that has been stilled for too long. From the fractured shadows of the western plains, a presence begins to coalesce—a rhythmic, thumping pulse that vibrates through the iron beams like a coming storm. It is an ancient energy reborn, a green-and-black void that swallows the stadium lights and replaces them with a cold, emerald glare. This entity doesn't just arrive; it invades, reclaimed from the depths of "hibernation" by a collective will, its silhouette a jagged, geometric threat looming over the pitch. The air grows thick with the scent of cut grass and impending conflict as the ground itself seems to tremble under the weight of a returning king. But as the fog of dread dissipates and the floodlights finally catch the sharp, minimalist "W" emblazoned on the emerald kits, the crowd erupts in a roar that confirms the nightmare is actually a homecoming: the "Green and Black" have returned, and Western United FC is back on the hunt.

times we have missed even one week of podding our views halve and take ages to get back up

what happens if a football club with crowds of ~3000 hibernate for an entire year?
