A league podcast thread

Starting to listen to the Booted episode. Just hope they don't interrupt and yahoo too much. Not holding my breath
The yahooing and reminiscing was the best part to be honest, i didnt rate his opinions on the game

If it's a relevant tangent I'm ok with it yet some past episodes they take ages to get to the point and it gets a bit to shouty. Nice opening about Djite's past.

Yeah the stories from his career are pretty interesting and that part was a fun listen

I listened to the Booted and Suited episode with Djite. His stories about his career in Turkey,China and S Korea were interesting. Also his take on Clive Palmer and his GCU days was insightful. He nominated Gombau as the coach he felt gave him the most football knowledge. He is very business oriented and would probably be a good pickup by the Liberal party if he has political aspirations.

I tend to agree with his opinion that the APL taking over the running of the A-League has not been in the game's best interest.

remerging the fa and apl is the most plausible of his suggestions, as the apl has made some bad decisions since the split

but the ffa were making bad decisions when they were merged and had a top administrator from nrl - Gallop was responsible for the war on active and selecting Macarthur and WUN

more importantly for the first time since the old soccer era, there are regular youth international games and the fa seems to give a stuff about them, there is a nst with an admitedly vague commitment to grow it and there seems to be a trickle of interest in grassroots funding. It still isn't great but at least we have seen the fa show some interest in growing the game since they haven't had to prop up the a league

also the a league being faced to live within commercial reality has meant that for the first time in 20 years they have had to care about youth development

Yes I suppose if the FFA had to take back the A-League it would not have the finances to be organising national youth teams,do some grassroots spending and be also underwriting a NST.Unfortunately our code does not have the resources and clout of the AFL and NRL.Maybe good showings by the Matildas at the Asian Cup and a deep run by the Socceroos at the WC might encourage some big sponsors/investors and interest from our politicians( won't hold my breath for the latter happening).

We need to do the hard work of growing from the bottom up

Which one? Against who? Halfway through the Peacock one. God EPL nights were fun back then.
the suited and booted pods allegedly against the a league. I think people get pretty defensive about the league

Every podcast is listing the same reasons but nothing really changes so you'd drive yourself crazy listening to many

A league twitter taking the djite and fbk pods to be critical of the a league

I haven't seen fbk, but the djite pod I certainly disagreed with him but didn't see it as critical?

Who gets defensive? A League reddit :D we need to get the issues out.
yeah suited and booted dont seem particularly partisan to me

one time I did a statistical analysis of whether crowds were up comparing like with like on I think our 1st or 2nd pod. Unfortunately I thought that the crowds weren't up when you compare like with like (was hoping to find the opposite) and we got an a league fan (very nicely to be fair) kind of ask us to be more positive. We didn't know how to take that, i would have loved the data to be different, but we have to be objective as we can, surely?
