Summer of Cricket thread

Well at least LFC is my friend.
Crap unable to post pic of pitch, telling me it is too big?
Good news for the batsmen is it has been cut to only 6mm.

We have lost another toss. Pommies batting. No surprise there.

Most deliveries from that over from Green were 140+ kph.

Has prob been the guy that has most made Brook mistime his shots.

wake up to 3/200ish
bad bowling? Good batting? Easy pitch?

No reason for no play for about an hour when they were off for bad lite as the ground lites were on.

Australia have named a 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup in February, with the squad heavy on spin bowlers and no left-arm pace bowler picked in the absence of Starc and Spencer Johnson. Cooper Connolly has been included, as have debutants in Matt Short, Matthew Kuhnemann and Xavier Bartlett. Mitchell Owen is one of the notable omissions from the squad.
Just an FYI - Short, Kuhnemann and Bartlett have all played T20 internationals before :)

How is Usman a liability. Sounds like you just hate the guy. We all know this is Usman''s last series, but he hasn't been terrible. Yeah, he was dropped after Head did well, then when brought back in last minute, he stepped up. That shows his class and shows that he has not been crap.

You keep talking about fielding like it's some amazing thing that Green does. Ussie is a slips fielder and in close. He is barely a liability as he has made no glaring mistakes or problems. He's been ever reliable in that spot over the years. We are not arguing about the future, we are talking about now. We all agree that Green is the future, but arguing that in the last test of the series is pointless. We should be arguing on current form, and on current form, Green has not earned his spot in the side.
You don't know me very well, Zimbos.

I'm not the sort of guy who 'hates' cricketers/sportpersons. For the record, I think they should have brought Usman back earlier into the Test team. He is a graceful batter to watch.

However, this Aus selection panel have had a predisposition to ignore the future - and team renewal by selecting players aged in their 20s. Previously, Warner, and now Usman, should have been dropped earlier.

As more English pundits and former Pommy Test cricketers are now claiming, Aus's batting has had problems for years - only a brilliant Aus bowling attack, and keeper Carey's current batting form, have hidden the Aus batting cracks.

I also think it is sad that Usman has said he feels like he has been treated differently as an Aussie Test cricketer because of his South Asian heritage.

I'm not sure how much Test cricket you've watched in Aus and overseas? Usman has been a weak slipper - relatively. Webster is much better.

Missed Test until 2.30 pm, then bad light stopped play prematurely.

Brook and Root dominated the Aus attack. Fair play to good batting by the Poms!

I would have dropped Usman, played Green at 5 and selected spinner Murphy, or have had Rocky instead.

From what I've seen at test level, Shield performances aside, Green shouldn't be batting anywhere above 6 until he can prove himself at test level. Many other great batters have done their time lower in the order once making the step up to test matches and only then have been pushed up the order when the time is right.

Ponting debuted at number 5 and I'm sure all will agree that it is very unlikely that Green will come anywhere near the batting record of Punter. I also think batting Green at 6 or 7 enables him to find his rhythm at this level which in my opinion is trying to score more rather than batting time. Has Carey around him who has good energy to rub off on and batting with the tail at times will enable him to loosen up and free the shoulders.

Good points. Similar to Keith Miller who I understand batted lower order. This will allow Green to rise up the bowling pecking order, initially to first change and then imho take the new ball as he has the tools, same as Nugget.

A second series century by Joe Root and I say better than his earlier ton. Some of his driving has been sublime and he barely played a loose shot. No doubt Joe's figures have soared, perhaps even doubled, under this English cult batting style as stats prove it. But in my view he does not need to play risky cricket shots as he has the technique to play naturally.

Neser's bowling has nowhere near the efficacy of Brisbane. Need more than low 130s Ness on this featherbed.

DC no doubt you are chuckling that Slug has finally been picked, but what the hell happened when he just stood there and missed a dolly off a good Green ball. He has a excellent slips record and sh've swallowed it. Green was unlucky yesterday and again today with Root also mistiming a quick shortie off the big fellar that landed in open space.

Jon does Beau still bowl his offies in shield? If so Smithy needs to tell him to bowl them instead. For mine his slow bowling is better than Travs.
