Since we have a thread for the Men's World Cup squad I thought it would be good to have one for the Women's Asian Cup too (and I'll make one for the Women's World Cup too when the Women's Asian Cup is done, and then the Olympics after that).

My squad so far (ordered by position and surname), assuming the expansion to 26 players is approved:
  • GK: Arnold, Micah, Whyman
  • DF: Carpenter, Catley, Grant, Heatley, Hunt, Nash, Nevin, Rankin, Rule
  • MF: Chidiac, Cooney-Cross, Galić, Sayer, Wheeler
  • FW: Foord, Fowler, Johnson, Kerr, McNamara, Raso, Sayer, Siemsen, Torpey, Vine
One to be omitted due to Mary Fowler's ACL; if she's fit then she'll stay and someone else will go, if she isn't then she'll be omitted.

The transfer window will be key. Game time is key.

Any thoughts?

Agree with most of the squad but personally I would have Chloe Lincoln replace either Arnold or Whyman as one of the three keepers and cut Kaitlyn Torpey from the squad in favour of a bolter like Shelby McMahon.

Yeah I could get behind that but Torps has been good for the Tillies before. Personally I would sadly cut Remy first since she went 25 league games without scoring before getting a hat-trick on the final day against Alingsås (who finished last and got relegated).

Does Indi dos Santos make a reserves list when she recovers? Apparently she's close but we haven't had many updates.

I think Indi Dos Santos would make a reserves list when she returns to full fitness but assuming the timeframe for recovering from an ACL injury is between nine months and a year then unfortunately she won't be playing any part in the Women's Asian Cup or getting game time altogether this season.

I guess that rules out Mary Fowler then?

Mary Fowler did her ACL in April 2025 and is very close to full fitness so I'd say she's still a shout to make the squad as she's tracking better than expected in her recovery, but it depends on whether she ends up getting game time between now and March, and whether Montemurro is willing to take a risk in picking her for the squad.

Agree with most of the list and the starting XI but I don't see Kaitlyn Torpey getting a callup whilst being clubless, and I'm surprised that Rhianna Pollicina gets into the squad over some of the wonderkids and bolters in the A-League Women.

Fair. Just feel like Pollicina is playing lights out football at the moment and potentially fills the Yallop hole. McMahon and Rasmussen very close

I think Annalise Rasmussen has big game experience already having been with the under-23 Matildas at the ASEAN Women's Championship, and definitely Shelby McMahon would make the squad for me given how well she did last season for Melbourne City both in the A-League Women and AFC Women's Champions League, but not sure whether she'll be right for March given that she's currently injured.

I'd put Dani Galić in ahead of Rhianna Pollicina to be honest, she's starting and scoring in a Big Six league. She's still so young though so she won't be missing out forever, she's still got heaps more tournaments left in her.

I'm making my final squad now but I appear to be stuck on whether Mary Fowler gets in or not. Any thoughts?
I'd say wait and see how Mary Fowler runs in the WSL game against Arsenal this week before deciding because she hasn't really gotten much game time since coming back from her ACL injury so we don't really have a clear picture of where she's at.

Would Remy or Torps be more likely to be cut and why? Or Jamilla given she hasn't been playing for Hoffenheim lately? I'm leaning towards Remy given she went so long without scoring for Kristianstad but Torps is at a WSL2 side so I'm torn. And also I don't wanna cut either of them.

I think Kaitlyn Torpey would be more likely to be culled from the squad because we already have plenty of depth at right back and if she were to make the list she would at most be injury cover for Ellie Carpenter and Charli Grant, assuming she's right for March. Jamilla Rankin is a versatile player who can play both left and centre back but hasn't been getting game time due to load management and partly due to postponements, and now with Sharn Freier ruled out for the entire tournament we need Remy Siemsen up front to bolster the forward line.

Thanks, you just helped A LOT with my squad!

My current list for the Women's Asian Cup would be as follows:
  • Goalkeepers: Mackenzie Arnold, Teagan Micah, either one of Chloe Lincoln, Sally James or Courtney Newbon
  • Defenders: Steph Catley, Jamilla Rankin, Jessika Nash, Ellie Carpenter, Charli Grant*, Winonah Heatley, Sasha Grove*, Tegan Bertolissio*, Clare Hunt, Courtney Nevin*, Charlize Rule
  • Midfielders: Izzy Gomez, Alana Murphy, Kyra Cooney-Cross, Clare Wheeler, Katrina Gorry, Amy Sayer, Leticia McKenna*
  • Forwards: Annalise Rasmussen, Sam Kerr, Hayley Raso, Shelby McMahon, Holly McNamara, Alana Jancevski, Mary Fowler, Cortnee Vine, Michelle Heyman, Remy Siemsen, Bryleeh Henry, Caitlin Foord
Names with asterisks beside them are under consideration for being culled from the squad, whilst those in italics are possible inclusions to the playing list. My selections are a mixture of those who have been given previous callups either for senior Matildas camps or as part of the under-23 Tillies, in addition to A-League Women bolters, and any thoughts on the list would be much appreciated.

Foordy in italics or is that a typo? And Nevs with an asterisk? Gotta disagree on that one, she starts for Malmö.

As for the others, some very bold picks. Good players and they have potential, but I don't see a lot of them making the cut.

Out of curiosity, of the current Tillies, who did you eliminate?

Caitlin Foord would be a lock but I don't know who to cull to include her. Some picks were named from the under-23 Matildas squad that won the ASEAN Women's Championship last year, and out of the current Matildas I eliminated Alanna Kennedy and Emily van Egmond most notably.
